Bret Smith

Don't give up on Taylor just yet. One thing with Coach Cut's offensive scheme is guys have to find out what their role is. Now with some injuries and Taylor getting more reps and as he settles in to the offense he with improve....he has the talent. Just don't count him out just yet. Okay.

I have been critical of him from season start. In the games he has appeared in he has always done his share to help us lose.

okay....and by the way chris hannon is in the NFL...he's on the chiefs team....but you know even if Bret does not go pro....i am happy he is having a good year thus far and I hope UT continues to win! and I HOPE GA BEATS FLA.

Yes he did make it. He also plays for one of the worst receiving units in the NFL (Chiefs) and has yet to make a catch this year. That guy had a bad attitude, which is why I really didn't like him last year. I don't think Bret has that problem.

Bret may or may not make it to the NFL, but I'm more considered with how he plays as a Vol than as a pro, anyway. Hopefully, he'll step it up big time next week, as Swain might not play. If that's the case, we'll really get to see what he's made of.

You are obviously at least somewhat partial. Is your husband Bret Smith? Seriously, has he had a reception over ten yards this year? If he saw the type of coverage that Swain and Meachem see every week, I am pretty sure he would be a non-factor.
like i said before....regardless of who is being double teamed....it is important to have someon to step up...and i am glad bret is stepping up to the plate......again....not everyone can be the STAR!

Yeah, I'd say he'll most likely get picked up as a free agent. I mean, CJ Fayton (Jets-- didn't make team) and Chris Hannon (Chiefs) both got a chance, and I think Smith is as talented as them.
i agree...and cj got hurt.....ny was going to keep him, but let him go after the injury....riggs...got a chance in miami...but was cut....i've seen him at several ut games....i just hope that these guys do something positive with themselves beyond college...coaching or something.......

UGa beating UF is a pipe dream at this point. I hope they do, but I like to live in the real world. Us gashing them for 51 totally destroyed their confidence on defense. They damn near lost to Miss. State today and got beat by Vandy at home last week.
i know....but it's nice to hope that FLA looses....that is the only way UT will get to play in the SEC champ....game......and i hope UT gets a good bowl....

true......and i think swain doesn't need to keep trying to play while hurt..i did not think briscoe did good today...but he is young.....he seems kinda small......i don't know....i just really thought UT would run away with the game, but they kinda shocked me.....

He had a nice game against Georgia, too.
who bret? HE SURE DID!!!!! they could not stop him.....and he even scored, but they called it short....but it was CLEARY a TD.....like today....i think Bret clearly scored!!! those officials today sucked!

Did anyone else notice that Briscoe looked uncomfortable out there on the field? He dropped what would've been a first down catch, and he also got stipped on what could've been a big-gainer. He just didn't look good out there.
i agree...

Bret Smith averages 11.8 YPC. He had a 39 yd reception today, too.

I never said he shouldn't be playing. I simply said he isn't Swain or Meachem. Honestly, I think his numbers are partially the result of the coverage being directed at those two. He didn't do that much the first few games.

The message is this: Bret Smith isn't as good as Swain or Meachem.

Stop reading more into that message than is there. Don't try to put words into my mouth.

Brad Cottam has dropped several passes this year. There's no reason to force the ball to him when we have a better TE in Chris Brown and the nation's best wide receiver duo.
This is the same Chris Brown who could barely manage the right routes against FL...?

Naturally, I'm only guessing, but I think the fact that Ainge threw the ball to a spot and then gave Brown hell for not being there is a clue.

That's possible. I'd still rather have him out there than one of the Cottams. Ainge could walk over to Brad and put the ball in his hands. He would still drop it.

Smith is still inconsistent. He is OK as a number 3. He clearly isn't as good as Swain or Meachem. What worries me is that the guys below Smith don't even seem to be on the same level. What's the deal with Austin Rogers? Is he hurt? He's the only other guy I would want to have in the ball game outside our top 3.

Smith may not be as good as Meach or Swain but he sure as hell has stepped up for us the last two games and both were tough games so I give him all the props in the world and he is a great wr.

The FIRST TWO GAMES...he was hurt i believe on the first drive during the CAL game....he suffered a concussion....and he DID NOT play during the air force game....his first game back after limited practice was Marshall....he has improved each game...and i hope he continues to do so....and i also hope meach continues to do well...and jason rebounds from his injury.....i think swain should sit out the next game....and let his ankle heal so that he won't do further damage.....

TRUE TRUE TRUE.......and i am sure glad he has stepped up....like i said before it is sooooo important to have depth...and someone who can SHOW UP and SHOW OUT when the so called stars are injured or having a bad game......
