I didn't argue that it was your take. It's still trash. There are clearly several people that like trophy games and want this one back. And unless you are sub-30, you better fact-check your own "old timers" take.Ok troll, that’s my take… what exactly am I out of touch with? Who’s pining for this to make a comeback lol
So who is it bettering? (this is gonna be good)
Great answer. Thank you for sharing and sad for the loss of your niece. Some folks here like to just push peoples buttons, but you know, we all have our reasons. I still think the beer barrel is a "McGuffin". Not sure what that is? Alfred Hitchcock made use of these in his movies. To be candid my brother was an alcoholic for many years and his daughter was killed in a drunk driving speed incident on the spur between pigeon forge and gatlinburg. Our family is probably sensitive to the potential effects of alcohol but i remember reading an article shortly after the accident that was the reason they discontinued the barrel where the family was appreciative and thankful for the thought put into that decision.
Now to me and that family a decision that could be made to reinstate a meaningless barrel to a game that will happen and have a winner regardless maybe an after thought to some but I know it has been a statement that many were proud that the Universities decided to make.
And I’ll apologize for being passionate about it but like I said I’ve seen my family pretty effected by poor decisions.

Wiki defines it as: In fiction, a MacGuffin (sometimes McGuffin) is an object, device, or event that is necessary to the plot and the motivation of the characters, but insignificant, unimportant, or irrelevant in itself.
In other words, this back and forth MacGuffin manifests itself in the form of a barrel that once housed an alcoholic beverage. It could be any object, for example, an old football helmet, a piece of quartz, a paperweight with scores on the side. Anything would fill the purpose of the barrel. In my mind and in most, the barrel no longer has any link to being drunk alcohol or any of that, it's just an object the victor keeps to babysit for a season (much like the Stanley cup in hockey). That's how I see it and also if you look at the pictures, the people having temporary possession of the damn thing sure to seem like they are having fun, which is what this whole "football" fandom experience is about. Anyway, I promised your answer was good and I wasn't wrong.
What are you talking about? I’m referring to the decision to quit exchanging the beer barrel
You're entitled to your wrong opinions but you don't have to post your Ls publicly for ridicule. It’s a dead tradition with no value to resurrect… so why bring it back for a bunch of old timers to relive? Regardless of what you or I might feel of the message it could send to a broader audience, it is evident via this forum that it could hold some negative opinions. All I’m saying is better left retired.
No I didn’t know what you were going for. A pretty decent comparison could be how baseball has changed the “disabled list” to the “injured list”. Somehow the term disabled is now offensive. It’s virtue signaling as well, which is an annoying phenomenon that is way older than the term snowflakeYou said banning the beer barrel is the “same philosophy and style” as today’s “snowflake culture” (which others call “cancel culture” or simply “cancelling”). Was just wondering which examples of today’s cancel culture and snowflakes you’re comparing it to.
But I think you knew what I meant.
I just read this and I’m sorry for what has happened to the people you love. I disagree on the overall matter of the barrel but I’m very sorry about everything. To be candid my brother was an alcoholic for many years and his daughter was killed in a drunk driving speed incident on the spur between pigeon forge and gatlinburg. Funny you complain about time but took the time to respond. It’s the why not the what that matters with what I’m talking about regarding MLBWhat a unique perspective you have. Before now I would not have spent anytime thinking about something so trivial, now that I have I realize I can't get that time back.
Good day. Today I report player X is on the disabled list.
What happened Coach?
He injured his throwing arm.

I agree. Just because someone has an opinion about something doesn’t make it wrong, it is an opinion. Your and my thought on the matter. Some people think their opinion is correct and attack those who differ. I appreciate you standing up for your principles. This^ is what’s wrong with our world today.
Have some perspective… my situation is just one of literally millions who are effected by similar things. People’s real lives are more important than some barrel or football game, grow up.
