Super seniors who can’t return in 2025
WR Bru McCoy
The tenacious pass-catcher and
Tennessee turned out to be a perfect match. His (second) final run through the T will be serenaded by the trademark “Bruuuuu” chants he’s earned as a fan favorite. McCoy changed the narrative on his college career after joining the Vols in 2022 after three seasons at
USC, where he appeared in just six games for the Trojans having bounced back and forth between them and
Texas in 2019 after coming out of powerhouse Mater Dei High School as something of
a two-way California prep football legend.
McCoy endeared himself to Tennessee fans in 2022 with his heroic catch against
Alabama and three 100-yard games as he was the second-leading receiver for the Vols behind
Jalin Hyatt. He overcame a gruesome fracture-dislocation of his ankle suffered against
South Carolina last season, impressing teammates and coaches with his attitude and determination throughout a long recovery process. He has 100 catches for 1,279 yards and five touchdowns in 27 games (all starts) at Tennessee, but his impact goes beyond the field and encompasses his leadership in the locker room, his work in the Knoxville community and his
Huddle For Hearts initiative to help youth athletic organizations receive AEDs.
“Man, these last few years have been instrumental in my development as a young man and maturity,”
McCoy said this week. “but I’ve also found a home here and made a lot of great relationships. Really have enjoyed my time around my teammates and coaches, and it’s created like a second home for me, and really this is like my first home. I’m a kid from Southern California, and now whenever someone’s like, ‘When are you going home?’ I’ll be talking about going back to Knoxville. Man, it’s a very special place to me. All the emotions haven’t really settled in yet.”
