Bru McCoy: Back in 2025?

Those YouTubers like boogie Bentley and sports talk J do videos like that just to get clicks. Don't pay them any mind and do not watch, that's what they want
Boogie Bentley is the literal definition of a grifter. The clown hates the vols and admitted as much on a live stream back in 2020. But he’s so dumb, hard headed and egotistical that he quit his job over his hobby a year ago. Now, he’s like a circus monkey throwing sh!t against the wall for attention.

If you dont have a #1 neither provide much. both catch short routes for different reasons…Bru can move the chains and White puts us in 3rd and long because he can’t break tackles for being tiny. Bru is a #3 WR starter and White is a backup being a starter.
If White cane back this season and was healthy he would have had a shot at the all time school record in receptions. He's currently 17 behind Peerless Price.

He also has more yards and a higher YPC than Bru in their 3 seasons here.

He just had his worst year. Time to move on. Respect him for working hard to come back from injury and will always be grateful for the catch that set up the field goal win vs Bama a few years ago but again, it’s time to move on
Not time to move on until we have proven replacements, and as of now we don’t. If Bru wants to return I’d be thrilled to have him back. The guy has earned some respect.

Kinda like Juan Jennings. He fights for the ball like Bru. As I said. He was done a disservice and not targeted a lot this season. One of the guys that had sure hands
Yes, Jauan Jennings like. Jauan rarely gets a deep ball down the sidelines, but he is deceptively fast. Bru is just trenches tough guy. He was certainly not used effectively in 2024. No reason to not have such a physical specimen as the 3rd slot option

Don’t think he’s eligible but yall are crazy if you wouldn’t welcome him back with open arms. We have nobody returning at WR who has done anything of substance at the college level and yall are in here acting like we’re too good for a guy with over 1500 receiving yards
And he’d be another year removed from that horrific injury which should help. I wouldn’t want him being the first option or maybe not even getting a ton of targets, but I’ll take a Bru McCoy Im the locker room, for sure.

Unless they are Beck, declaring for pros, then saying, oops, I meant "portal" so now going to Miami.

I don't know how (or if) the rules have changed in the NIL world but a player used to be able to declare for the draft and then pull out as long as it was by a certain date AND he had not hired an agent.

Many of these guys by this point have had agents since their freshman year of high school so I am unsure if that rule is even still valid or not

Anybody know?

Yes it is possible. He has only played 4 years, he had another year if he wants.
No,it's not possible. He's done. Listen,If Bru could he would. He knows his draft stock is improbable. His best option if he had it available would be to come back and ball out this year. There's a reason why he's not announcing that he is coming back to play football at the University of Tennessee for 1 last ride, He can't! He's out of eligibility!

Do you have proof of this live stream? I listen to him. If what you say is true, I will listen no more.

Kiffinhomer, even though Kiffin is in your screen name, I completely agree with your assessment of Mr. Bentley. I never cared for his style or speaking voice from the get go, and I stopped listening to his show months ago.

You obviously know nothing about BRU. Yes, Squirrel has more stats. Which of the 2 players had the most impact? Bru did a LOT more than just catch balls. He also played a different role and, because of injuries, fewer snaps over their careers here. No one in their right mind would pick Squirrel over Bru..... Bru can play any WR position.. Squirrel is a slot period. Not trying to knock squirrel but you're making a weird silly comparison here. The 2 players are not in the same zip code. If Bru can stay healthy he will have a long NFL career. Squirrel will be lucky to be a UDFA not because he is a bad WR but because he is tiny. There are a few guys in the NFL in that under 180 pound range most in the 175ish territory.. all of them are different animals altogether than Squirrel.

From November article before the last home game. Write up on all the seniors who were leaving.

Super seniors who can’t return in 2025

WR Bru McCoy

The tenacious pass-catcher and Tennessee turned out to be a perfect match. His (second) final run through the T will be serenaded by the trademark “Bruuuuu” chants he’s earned as a fan favorite. McCoy changed the narrative on his college career after joining the Vols in 2022 after three seasons at USC, where he appeared in just six games for the Trojans having bounced back and forth between them and Texas in 2019 after coming out of powerhouse Mater Dei High School as something of a two-way California prep football legend.

McCoy endeared himself to Tennessee fans in 2022 with his heroic catch against Alabama and three 100-yard games as he was the second-leading receiver for the Vols behind Jalin Hyatt. He overcame a gruesome fracture-dislocation of his ankle suffered against South Carolina last season, impressing teammates and coaches with his attitude and determination throughout a long recovery process. He has 100 catches for 1,279 yards and five touchdowns in 27 games (all starts) at Tennessee, but his impact goes beyond the field and encompasses his leadership in the locker room, his work in the Knoxville community and his Huddle For Hearts initiative to help youth athletic organizations receive AEDs.

“Man, these last few years have been instrumental in my development as a young man and maturity,” McCoy said this week. “but I’ve also found a home here and made a lot of great relationships. Really have enjoyed my time around my teammates and coaches, and it’s created like a second home for me, and really this is like my first home. I’m a kid from Southern California, and now whenever someone’s like, ‘When are you going home?’ I’ll be talking about going back to Knoxville. Man, it’s a very special place to me. All the emotions haven’t really settled in yet.”

Everyone has been reacting to something that was speculated on in June of 2024. The chance was looked at and found not possible to return.

Knoxville list of seniors leaving and those that "could" return. From November 2024:

These Tennessee seniors are out of eligibility

Four starters and two veteran backups on the offensive line have exhausted their eligibility. Three defensive tackles and two starting wide receivers are also done at UT after this season.

Those are among the notable losses from this senior class. Here are the seniors who are out of eligibility after this season.

  • OL Cooper Mays: All-SEC performer and four-year starter will be among the most challenging players to replace in the SEC. Freshman William Satterwhite or redshirt freshman Vysen Lang could fill his role in 2025, or the Vols may look in the transfer portal.
  • OL Javontez Spraggins: Four-year starter at right guard will leave a big hole that must be filled with an inexperienced young player or a transfer.
  • OL John Campbell: Miami transfer has started at both tackle spots the past two seasons. Bennett Warren, Jesse Perry and others could compete with UT commitment David Sanders, the No. 1 tackle in the 2025 class.
  • OL Andrej Karic: Texas transfer has started at left guard the past two seasons when he’s been healthy. By rule, he is out of eligibility. But he could apply to the NCAA for a medical waiver in hopes of recouping one season of eligibility because he suffered a season-ending injury in his fifth game in 2023.
  • OL Jackson Lampley: Veteran backup has played 48 games at guard and occasionally started in a pinch.
  • OL Dayne Davis: Veteran backup has been a valuable utility lineman at all five positions on the offensive line.
  • QB Navy Shuler: Reserve has played three games since transferring from Appalachian State in 2022.
  • TE Miles Kitselman: Alabama transfer has been UT’s best tight end in his lone season with 17 receptions for 229 yards and three TDs.
  • WR Bru McCoy: Southern Cal transfer has started the past three seasons, making 100 receptions for 1,279 yards and five TDs for the Vols. Chris Brazzell, five-star freshman Mike Matthews or perhaps a future transfer will replace McCoy.
  • WR Dont’e Thornton: Oregon transfer has been UT’s most productive receiver this season with 20 catches for 505 yards and four TDs. Matthews, Brazzell or a transfer will be among the potential replacements here, as well.
  • DT Omari Thomas: Four-year starter has been a staple and team leader in a deep defensive line rotation. Daevin Hobbs and Jaxson Moi will move up in the rotation.
  • DT Elijah Simmons: Veteran has been in the rotation for five seasons.
  • DT Omarr Norman-Lott: Arizona State transfer has been a disruptive force in the defensive tackle rotation the past two seasons.
  • LB Keenan Pili: BYU transfer was good when he was healthy. But he suffered season-ending injuries in back-to-back years.
  • CB William Wright: Played 30 games in his career, mostly on special teams.
  • S Will Brooks: Starting safety was a semifinalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, given annually to the best walk-on player in college football.
  • LS Matthew Salansky: Five-year starter. His likely replacement, Bennett Brady, has waited his turn for the past three seasons.

These Tennessee seniors can return in 2025

Two starters on the defensive line and a veteran backup quarterback have the option to return for the 2025 season because they have an extra year of eligibility from the COVID season in 2020.

  • DT Bryson Eason: Two-year starter could return as a veteran anchor to a talented but younger defensive line rotation.
  • DE Dominic Bailey: Starter could return and keep depth intact at defensive end. The Vols also have Tyre West, Jayson Jenkins and Tyree Weathersby at strongside defensive end.
  • QB Gaston Moore: Serving another season as Nico Iamaleava’s backup is an option. Jake Merklinger and four-star commitment George MacIntyre are the other projected quarterbacks on the 2025 roster.

I don't think either of them has the speed to play in the NFL, I'm more concerned with their impact with the Vols. I don't think it's silly to consider a guy with 17 less catches in one less season than Juan Jennings a solid player but that's just me.

You're right they did play different roles, typically a slot player isn't featured in an offense and catches a lot of short passes and isn't a featured WR. Their receiving stats are usually more comparable to a TE. And in 3 seasons Squirrel is in the top 10 in catches in history.

Uhh JJ is fast enough for the league why wouldn't Bru who is faster be? JJ ran a 4.7 at the combine. Being a dog is worth 0.25 on your 40 sir, thought you'd know that. Bru is at least 90% of the dog JJ is so 0.2 for him. Even post injuries he likely runs in the low 4.6 to high 4.5's

Comparing Squirrel to JJ or Bru is ridiculous. The best person to compare White to would be Pig Howard (he's faster than Pig but also about 20 pounds smaller). Animal names don't seem to work out for WR's at UT as far as the NFL goes. Squirrel is one of the better slot WR's we have had in the last 20 years but he is a SLOT.... I don't think people get the point there. A slot WR is not as valuable as an outside WR because 90% of WR's can line up in the slot, and very few slot WR's can line up outside. Even DK Metcalf who has legendary stiff hips lines up about 15% of his snaps in the slot. 94% of squirrel snaps have come in the slot. Pretty much the only time white lined up outside is in bunch sets for screens.

I don't care about the NFL other than I hope the Vols that make it have long and successful careers.

Yes, most of White's snaps came in the slot, that's his position.

He is similar to Pig, however he has 40 more catches and counting had averages 2 more yards per catch.

You seem to be trying to scout for the NFL while I'm concerned with the impact they would have for UT.
Few people at the college level would have swapped Brock Purdy for Tim Tebow.

Yes I would 100% rather have a healthy White back than a healthy Bru. I think he fits this scheme well, as evidenced by the 67 receptions he had in 2023 (8th most in a season in UT history- with Joe Milton at QB).
