bruce is our coach and we should stick by him

I'm all for sticking with Pearl unless we face some very serious stuff. If he was coaching at a place like UNC or Kansas this probably would have been a death sentence for him with what is being stacked against him but Hamilton cannot go 0-3 on hirings (TR, Kiffin, Pearl) so Pearl may just survive. If Pearl had just told the truth he would be fine but that is what we are going to have to live with. If Pearl is suspended for a season or we face multiple seasons of no post season, I just dont see him surviving but its too soon to tell until the sanctions are out.

coach pearl has done a great job as coach while at ut. however, with the evidence growing against him, i think we may be reaching the point where he is becoming a liability to the team and the university.

I've tried to get back into this mindset, but find it impossible given what has transpired. I appreciate your us against the world outlook, unfortunately the honeymoon is clearly over and the shouting is only beginning, I fear.

Maybe if we win a whole bunch of games and there are no significant penalties, some of us that were the most vocal in our support of Pearl will return to hyperbole. As for now, we'll wait until the hammer falls or doesn't.

It's all about the players and their progress this season for this Reformed Slurper...

So, the hammer fell....

Today just made the whole season about Bruce and Bruce's transgressions. I can no longer offer him any support. It's time to move on.

You're now a man without a country. Those of us who always saw Pearl for what he is certainly don't want you on our side.

Yeah, but we all know how superior Tulsa's resources are. No way Tennessee could ever actually hire multiple competent coaches.
Butler was in the freaking title game this year, Kent State made the Elite 8 a few years back, and there have been other random teams to make it, but we're supposed to put up with anything Bruce Pearl does because he rode a fortunate draw to the Elite 8?

I agree in principle. Bruce turned the program around by turning a sows ear into a silk purse. He took over a program with very little talent hoping to get an NIT bid into a perennial NCAA automatic team with talent at every position. What he did financially for the program is amazing. He had the key to the city. Why he chose to risk that by knowingly breaking the rules for no apparent gain you would have to ask him? I can't explain it. Then he compounded the secondary violation by lying about it and conspiring with the family of a recruit to lie about it. Again, makes no sense but it happened. I hope he withstands and remains the coach but because he has done his job so well UT is probably in the best position in 20 years to hire a top name replacement. This was not possible when Bruce was hired but any top coach would have to take a hard look now with this roster and the recruits that signed last week. Its a win win situation for UT regardless of how it goes down.

The problem with hirng a good coach is the same as Florida had after Spurrier leaving. Stoops was offered the job and declined. Good proven coaches will not want to follow a popular coach that was fired. Anyway with our history of hiring good coaches in basketball speaks
for its self.

No it doesn't because Dickey had no interest in basketball.

You do know that Spurrier wasn't fired, right?

Looking at them sitting at the table announcing the SEC sanctions you can almost see that Hamilton and Slive worked this out in advance in the hope of avoiding more serious sanctions from the NCAA. No one looks surprised or out-raged. It might work!

Why do you consider the severity of the penalty to be a relevant piece of information?

Because these defend-him-at-all-costs dullards are ok with him being a lying cheat, insofar as we don't get in too much trouble for it.

However, it makes their continued support at least somewhat more understandable - they have just as pathetically shizzy character as he does.

How'd they get this way? Because their parents were just as shizzy as they are, and didn't raise them right. That's why.

Uh, I dunno, my only aspiration is to be a dirty old man, and I count among my friends a guy who dates a lazy eyed woman, two attorneys, and a guy who frequents truck stops carrying a hole saw, and I think Pearl has to go.
