Bruce or Bust?

Not really a big fan of letting Slive dictate who we can and can't hire. It amazes me how things that have transpired under his watch at Bama and Auburn get swept under the rug but he comes down hard on us.

You can go against his wishes, I'm just not sure it's the smartest thing. Now maybe he has changed his tune on Pearl, but how many conference commissioners have suspended coaches in their conference for 8 games?

I don't know of any, but maybe someone else does???

I thought u said that steven said his dad would not be coming back......I dont think anyone claimed bruce would be back bc travis or hooker said it would be a good idea that he be brought back.

Then you should reread those threads. There were many, "it's happening" "the word is out" Type posts suggesting these articles were a sign there's something going on.

A Jimmy Cheek scandal (like the clown president of Ohio St had) would be nice about right now.

What can Slive do that hasn't already been done? It seems clear to me that he's running interference for certain programs and coming down on others. We can roll over and allow that to continue or fight and say we are going to do what's best for for Tennessee.

So you admit he's doing things that would be deemed illegal? Yet nothing seems to be happening to him?

I know u r smarter than this.....its just people acting excited bc it is not just average fans talking about it.

Its not like they said anything but opinion anyways. Im actually starting to buy into the brumors being possible where as I thought there was no way a yr ago.

I think he and the NCAA are corrupt. How else do you explain the uneven punishments that are handed out? Why do we get players suspended or kicked off the team for taking money and an Alabama player doesn't for taking money from the exact same source? Is Alabama just better at covering tracks than us?

Mark Stoops or Bobby Petrino a better hire? There's a reason UK didn't pursue him, and UL did a year later. Like I said you won't find a direct quote, but yes, it was widely talked about by people who were told this from people behind closed doors from the SEC office.

As for the Brumors, I think hart is probably intrigued by the idea. He's likely the best candidate you're gonna get for the price, and let's be honest, that plays a huge part. I think there's a couple giant hurdles, 1. Cheek 2. Slive 3. Other members of the AD who are still here....that there would have to be a lot overcome for it to happen.

It reminds me in a sense of the Gruden stuff, there was interest on both sides, but there were a couple hurdles in the way the 2 sides just couldn't get over.

Oh I agree 100%, there's just others in the thread who think Slive is perfectly clean and wouldn't do anything like that.

I agree with you in that I don't think the Bruce Pearl thing will happen for the reasons you've been stating. Cheek isn't going anywhere unfortunately and he wouldn't bring Pearl back and Pearl wouldn't work for him again.

I was told that Slive went to bat for Pearl with the AA. TIFWIW

Idk for sure. I speculated that the he was trying to self impose hoping the NCAA would accept the suspension and not impose further sanctions on Pearl.

Interesting. If so then it seems he wouldn't have an issue at all with Tennessee rehiring him and wouldn't be a hurdle at all.

So in other words, Cheek is the only hurdle....

What I heard was Cheek, Hamilton, and Slive met with representatives from the NCAA at the SEC tournament in Atlanta to get a feel for what was going to happen. At the meeting Slive went to bat for Pearl arguing that 8 games was enough. The AA disagreed and said the penalties would be more severe if Pearl was retained. Afterwards, Hamilton expressed to Cheek that he thought they should man up and keep Pearl. Cheek was adamant he wanted Pearl fired. Hamilton resisted and was told he could go too if he didn't like it but if maintained the company line, he'd be taken care of, hence the $1M parting gift. TIFWIW but that's what I heard from someone that should know.

If true, I'm wrong about Slive then. Cheek can shove it where the sum don't shine though.

Yeah I always said Slive was trying to help Tennessee. No way a business man like him thought Bruce Pearl getting fired was best for UT & SEC! It seems you and I agree Slive was trying to tell the AA Ill handle this internally, let me take care of it. It just didnt work.

If this is true, they can show Cheek the door right now!

Well for probability of Pearl returning sake, I'll hope that's the true version. It still leaves a giant hurdle in Cheek, but 1 hurdle is easier to jump than 2 I always say.
