Bruce Pearl In Three Years

After Sampson messed up in Oklahoma, Indiana hired him. So, it is possible that Pearl would be hired again.
Of course, he would have to start at UAB, Tulane, New Mexico State etc. then a few seasons later, he could move to a bigger school.
Mike Price messed up at "O Bama" but U.T.E.P. hired him.
Rick Neuheilzer messed up at Colorado, with recruits getting "Escort girls" and he messed up at Washington
with gambling but he still got a job at U.C.L.A.
The only way that Pearl doesn't coach on the college level again is if he doesn't want to. I am sure that offers will trickle in after his ban is completed.

It is highly unlikely that Pearl will coach in the collegiate ranks again. The difference between his situation and those you mention is the show cause penalty. Sampson was given a show cause after screwing up in Indiana. To date, only one Division I head basketball coach has returned to the collegiate ranks after serving a show cause. That would be Todd Bozeman, who coaches the mighty Morgan State Bears now. That's probably about as far as he's gonna make it. Show cause is basically the death penalty for a coach. If I had to guess, I would say Pearl has less than a 5% chance of ever coaching in the NCAA again.

Todd Bozeman never took his team to the number 1 ranking, nor did he ever make it to the Elite Eight. Aside from that, his transgressions were far more serious than those of Bruce Pearl. Show causes have an expiration date and they are not insurmountable even when in effect. Coaches with winning records approaching 80% are highly coveted (especially by universities with deep pockets). Bruce won't be out of college coaching for a significant length of time unless he wants to be.

History disagrees with you.

Mears had 15 years coaching here and made three tournaments. Granted the field was smaller, but, I just don't remember any #2 seeds or but one sweet sixteen.
I also don't recall any thirty win seasons or # 1 rankings.
I have a fond regard for Mears, but, he was not the best we had for coach.

Never said he was as DeVoe was the best Xs and Os guy we ever had here

I see the phrase thrown around quite often by some of our SELF ANNOINTED EXPERTS without seeing any posts that would be suggestive of hate. What is it? Is someone labeled a hater because they don't praise our former and never-to-be-again coach? Are they a hater because they KNOW FOR A FACT he's never coming back to coach here and openly acknowledge it? Is that a hater? Is openly acknowledging facts about a former and never-to-be-coach-again make one a hater? Must be so, according to some of our SELF ANNOINTED EXPERTS.

Pearl was a GOOD coach and great promoter of our program here. He made our program nationally relevant AGAIN. Unfortunately, here at UT, the men's basketball coach must be a good PR man at the same time. Mears was great at it which is why he is so beloved and why Pearl showed such reverance for him. Mears put UT basketball on the map and coined the phrase, "Big Orange Country". I loved Pearl as much as anyone. I didn't really care about the Illinois thing as I didn't know too much about it. I did research it though, when the NCAA allegations came out. What kind of person lies about a silly secondary violation and then attempts to covertly cover it up? There were several people around the country talking about his sketchy character for years over the Illinois issue, but they were wrong about him, weren't they? We didn't put two and two together when the second thing Pearl did after arriving in Knoxville was cheat on his wife with someone 15+ years younger. Openly and flamboyantly prancing around town as if he didn't care. Of course we weren't putting two and two together. We were nationally relevant again and his ex-wife was a jealous bi**h. The fact is that Pearl has questionable character traits and it was a huge cost to the program.

I know. I know. I am a Pearl hater.:birgits_giggle:

I really wish though, you SELF ANNOINTED EXPERTS, would review Websters before ignorantly labeling some of us haters.

Pearl's not coming back.:eek:hmy: EVER. Get over it

While I agree with the premise of your post, the exact same post could be made and replace Pearl "haters" with Pearl "lovers". What makes one a Pearl lover? The SELF ANOINTED EXPERTS run on both sides of that fence.

The real problem is, there are too many on this board that think in extremist absolutes. If someone is critical of something Pearl did, they're a hater. If someone gives Pearl credit for something he did, they are quickly labeled a Pearlophile, Pearl-lover, Tan-man fan, etc.

Try to not take the VN so serious.

No need to start a butthurt thread.

No butthurt here. Just tired of the bi-polarized viewpoint we see from many of our posters. If you don't love someone, then you must hate them. Typical simple minded thinking.

Butthurt? LOL

Maybe it's a good thing that the posters on this site have no influence on hirings and firings at UT.
