Bruce Pearl Just Can't Seem To Grasp...

Exactly. His refusal to even meet with Pearl now is a clear sign of support.

Do you have something that says the bump is a major violation? I haven't found it through numerous searches.

Edit: I've found it, you are correct.

I google-news'd "Pearl bump major violation." Got this:
Homepage | MrSEC.com

If anything, the surprises were mainly positive. But re-reading the letter, it’s clear that the violation of the “bump rule” — usually a secondary violation — is a bigger deal than initially thought. Why? The NCAA listed that as one of the seven major violations Tennessee stands accused of.

Did you read the LOA. The NCAA listed it as a Major violation.

I did, I had somehow overlooked it. I had been considering it as a minor inconsequential infraction this whole time. A major violation is a different animal and a game changer.

If the bump is the determining factor, that is a crock. I still maintain, and will continue to maintain, the bump was not a violation and it's certainly reasonable to think Pearl felt the same way. That whole deal was the NCAA pissed off because UT let Pearl recruit for two weeks before his recruiting ban and they went around after Pearl looking for anything they could pin on him.

That said, Pearl did enough to get fired last summer. What a depressing day. We get smoked in the NCAAs, I have to watch this team quit for the 20th time and we will now lose the best coach in our program's history. Hopefully, we will find someone to carry on his success. I will remain cautiously optimistic.

the NCAA notified Hamilton in late November about the bump. That was the first UT heard of it and that was the straw that broke the camals back. things ahve gone down hill since then for Bruce
Larry, did you post something about Anthony Grant being interested in the TN. job? I think it was another site.

Having Wetzel come out against you is the college athletics equivalent of LBJ having Cronkite turn against the Vietnam War.

Eh, Wetzel was just reporting the obvious. Even in the end he said "The jury is still out." He essentially said nothing.

Hat, LawVol, LWS, VolDad - thank you for bringing sanity to VN threads like this one. I will try to do the same. It's the difference between being a serious poster and a wannabe.

I like getting the truth even if it is not the way I want it to turn out. This Pearl thing in the later stages has been a classic posturing by him to work on his image for his next employer. I would do the same thing given his circumstances. To say that the team laid down in the second half because of this stuff is not true. They laid down because they are not a good team. Every team that beat them played a mixed bag of defenses and always played zones for a good portion of the game. They knew our players were basketball dumb (except Harris) and would not respond well. Pearl recruited all of them and was supposed to coach them up. Didn't happen.

Did someone call Pearl your hero?

If you like/d Pearl and wish this wasn't happening, is that not the label? The word is all over the place on this site. Is there really a thought that BP is somebody's actual "hero"? No. Just unneeded drama.

I wouldn't be surprised with some of the Pearl supporters on here.

Not here to get into it tonight. Grillin and chillin. Feel like I've left a funeral and looking for the sense of relief. Just don't like to hear people run people into the ground when they are already low.

It was in response to the question "Have you coached your last game at Tennessee?"

he is talking about himself and staff, that was said because he knows we as in him and staff are gone they were in on phone calls and the other stuff except the lying to ncaa,he knows that its his fault because the team played very poorly because they couldnt get the situation with ncaa investigation and stuff put behind them

Isn't the bump up for debate? I think the whole violation is determined by how much time they spoke with the junior. Not taking sides, but I've read quite a bit on how the appeal of this violation is a 50-50 chance of winning. BP was dumb not to run away from this recruit. But did he and TJ say hello and how are you doing, or did they spend 2 - 3+ minutes talking with him? This is such a picky situation, but like I said, BP and TJ had no business spending more than 30 seconds speaking. Who knows what really happened. I guess the NCAA. Bruce at the very least should have reported the contact no matter if was just a hello, period. Another dumb decision!
