Bruce Pearl Left Toilet Bowl Full Of Turds As A Parting Gift

Pearl's team last year made it to the NCAA on its SOS. They started the season playing gangbusters and then went into the tank.
With the talent he had last year the loss to Michigan was far more embarrassing than anything we've witnessed this season. I'd rather he had passed on the tournament.

Were you even around last year to remember what was going on. Hamilton came out and said the day before the Michigan game that Pearl was going to be fired after the tourney. Way too much for them kids to deal with. If you are basing Pearl's whole career on that one game, then you missed a hell of a ride.

I was a moderate Pearl fan.
I do not however equate his accomplishments to God Almighty's and am willing to let him go.
He's gone. Never to return.

If anybody thinks Martin is a better coach than Pearl they need their head examined. Whether you like him or not not, Pearl has proved he is a winner. Hopefully, Martin will prove it as well. He has gotten off to a terrible start. He is the coach and he is responsible for the current record.

Most should agree with this. But Pearl set the bar for the next coach - and so far his successor is well below the established standard.

It is much easier to recruit players to UT now, then it was when Pearl took over. Pearl showed you can win at UT and go deep in the NCAA tournament. It's a lot easier to convince players to come here if they feel they have a legitimate shot at going deep into the NCAA tournament. :twocents:

I agree. But, a coach has to show he knows what he is doing and from what we have seen so far he looks lost.

I agree but it's early. Basketball is all about how you finish not how you start. Let's see they have improved by the end of the seson.

It is pretty funny to read the back and forth on this forum. I think it is pretty understandable that many UT fans still are loyal to Pearl given he had more success in a dead program than anyone since late 1970s. We reached no. 1 for the first time ever, beat some of the best teams in the country such as Kansas, filled the arena, and went to the NCAA 6 straight years. These are things never done at Tennessee before, so yeah many people are going to disappointed in a 3-6 start. Who knows if Martin is inevitably going to win, but the rough start makes it hard for fans that saw Tennessee have a .703 winning percentage under Pearl. IMO I don't believe in the bs talent level issue with this team, there are 5 top 100 players and it is up to Martin to get them to play up to their potential. I think it is pretty simple, he will be here for at least 2 years so if he doesn't win soon the arena will be empty again and as we saw with football that is usually when someone gets axed.

Tobias wasn't turning down first round money to come back for Pearl. That would've been stupid. Tobias is most definitely not stupid.

Yeah, you're probably right, but ya never know. Occasionally there is a kid out there that will turn down the quick money (Manning) for the bigger picture. I mean if you look at the adulation that Peyton gets here, and really won very little.. versus Tobias' now being just another basketball player.. too bad really.

Eh, it's Martins first year and he was a proven winner at Missouri St. while Dooley wasn't a proven winner at La Tech. Cuonzo went 11-20 his first year then went 24-12 the next. Dooley went 5-7 this year. Cuonzo gets more of an excuse than Dooley.

Uh.. I don't think he gets an "excuse", but he does get time to show us what his product can/will be. I am as disappointed in this team as the next guy, but more than willing to see what CCM can build. I do believe however that building a football team is exponentially harder than building a basketball team. You can NOT lose in football.. basketball you can have a bunch of losses and still win it all.

Bruce Pearl was successful in his short run at UT, but he left a toilet bowl of turds as a parting gift to UT and new coach, Cuonzo Martin.

This team is a selfish team that refuses to help one another and is full of individuals who worry about their own points.

Our guard play is awful and our big men play timid.

I will be surprised if we win four more games this season.

Thanks for the toilet bowl full of turds Bruce.

and the fans that seem to be turds also:eek:lol:

I like how people blame Pearl for this team struggling against bad teams like Austin Peay and UNC Asheville.

I'm not saying the cupboard is full by any means but anyone who is using lack of talent as an excuse for sucking against crappy teams is flat out stupid. They aren't struggling with bad teams because of lack of talent, they're struggling against bad teams because of bad coaching. Again, anyone who believes those rosters have anywhere near Tennessee's talent is brain damaged. It's only a legit excuse when losing to teams on par in the SEC or good teams in general. Most of the kids on Asheville and Peay were probably 0-2* and I'm sure half of them only got a couple offers from like 3 lower tier schools.

Quit blaming Pearl for this team sucking against the really bad teams. As bad as some of you guys think this roster is, any above average coach would run over crap schools with this roster. It's nowhere near as bad the roster Austin Peay putting on the court. I will give Martin a pass for this year so he can teach the players his system and get them to buy into it. But if he's still struggling with bad schools next year, it's 100% his fault.
