Bruce Pearl with another recruiting violation? Say it ain't so

Because like you and others, jimmy dykes got on a soapbox and lambasted BP on national tv and didn't know if it was true or not.

And fwiw, most people on here have absolutely no clue the stuff that goes on in recruiting. Zero clue.

So you think Cooper was lying and Pearl never directly or indirectly contacted him?

And fwiw I've got a decent clue what takes place, I've had a few good friends go d1 in basketball and football, a few of which now play professionally.

BP said he didn't contact them and Cooper recanted. That's all we have to go by. Everybody acting like BP is a habitual liar for lying about the bbq is a little over the top. He lied/lies no more than 90% of the coaches. His was just a really stupid decision. Idiotic, really.

I also think that kicking people when they are down is too popular in this day and age. People automatically want to assume the worst.

I'm not like that.

I agree with all that.

Hears my thing and maybe I'm just a skeptic and it's the way I'm wired...why would cooler and his parents completely fabricate this story? I'm not buying the 15 seconds of game reasoning, he could have named duke or a much higher profile school if he was simply seeking attention. Then when he does recant he says...no schools DIRECTLY contacted me, why did he need to throw that word in there? Finally, usually if you're doing a 180 like he did you usually shed some light on why your flipping your story. He provides no insight what so ever as to why he made up those stories and why his parents made up those stories....IMO there's just a lot of head scratching with the whole story, but I find it hard to think this kid who's playing in the sweet 16 sat down the night before and was thinking of stories he could fabricate to become popular.

As I said maybe I'm just a skeptic and reading too much into coopers actions. I'm sure regardless of whether or not he was contacted we will never know what the true story actually is/was. Best to just let it go.

Who knows. Maybe it just popped out. Maybe they wanted to show off?

Same reason, when I was 19-20, I told people I was recruited by some schools when I really wasn't. I was lying. Really had no reason.

Yea but that's a bit different than accusing schools of violations, and if he was trying to look cool wouldn't he name elite teams???

I don't know, it very well could be something that was a lie, but I find it odd to imagine while preparing for his biggest game e sat down with his parents and drew up this plot to look cool.

Ummm the coaches thing was a split second (minute) thing. UT's lawyer showed the coaches a xerox copy of the pic that the NCAA was going to question Pearl and the rest of the coaches on only minutes before they were to meet with the NCAA. UT's lawyer had the pic for about 6 days if I remember right.

Whatever happened, it was a stupid decision to turn a minor violation into a firing offense, but I do believe one of the assistant coaches (Tony Jones) was interviewed by the NCAA before Pearl. Pearl was trying to protect what Jones had said by basically giving the same story that Jones told the NCAA. Stupid. Even though Jones may have been helping cover up Pearl, Pearl should have cut Jones lose at that point and not lied. After he found out that the NCAA actually knew the truth, then Pearl had to go back and meet with the NCAA and tell them that he lied....scandle comes out.

UT lawyer had the pic for 6 days and didn't show the pic to Pearl until minutes before the interview. There wasn't time to get all the coaches together and go over the scenerios of what the penalties were going to be. So Pearl fired for making a stupid decision and UT lawyer IMO should have got a serious ass beating.

This is a closed case and shouldn't be a big deal. Probably what happened IMO was someone close to the kids family (AAU coach, uncle, cousin, ect...) bumped into one of the assistant coaches and something was said like "kid is a great player, we could really use someone like that at TN".

I'd buy that except for the fact Tennessee was supposedly recruiting him very "hard" in the families words. IMO its an all or nothing, either there was contact directly or indirectly and recruiting took place, or it's simply jot true at all and Cooper just made this up.

If a coach or assistant coach told my AAU coach, uncle, cousin, etc... that "I'm a great player and that university could really use someone like me" could mean to me that the coach wants me there or would want me to come there if I decided to transfer. Remember these are kids that like to do a lot of smack talking.

Reminds me of comments you hear from coaches and ADs during a coaching search when they can't reach an agreement and there's a search firm in between them.

In the end, who really cares though? Despite an element of our fan base that can't see the forest for the trees, Bruce Pearl's true colors are well known.
