Gotta remember Eric, these kids now have had Myspace and FB all their lives, or at least as long as they can remember. Most of them have ALL their friends from school on there. Not to mention almost ALL these elite kids that camp together add each other and communicate through it.

There is a legitimate concern, but I think this is a case where something is going to have to happen before the NCAA has any grounds to move, IF they ever do.

Well, they need to do something. Too many people think that they can just communicate with these guys and proclaim that they want them to play for their favorite team without some type of violation to come in the future.

Because people in their schools or on the street don't do that already....

Actually, buddy, I'm wide awake tonight. Drank too much coffee earlier. But I am seriously asking, what restrictions are placed on prospective students by the NCAA prior to their enrollment?

Academic guidelines are what I am referring to in this case. They are in place for good reason, but I think that the Clearinghouse is a pretty useless part of the NCAA and causes too many problems because they can't get the right information in circumstances.

Academic guidelines are there whether you are a student or not. That doesn't meat the criteria of NCAA restrictions. If you go that direction, you would have to restrict all students from having a FB account in order to be admitted.

I could be wrong on this, but a scholarship athlete has different requirements to enter school than a normal student and most of that is guidelines and restrictions on things by the NCAA.

Those are still academic restraints. That's different. You can't tell a student or an athlete that they can't be a member of a certain social group or a website in order to be admitted. Not to a public institution.

I'm done debating this for the night. We've gone too far off topic anyway. I think Bryce will be a Vol and I think he'll be allowed to keep his Facebook. :)

The NCAA itself is private.

But its member institutions are not. Besides, i dont think its really a valid argument. If the academic requirements were more stringent for athletes than for students in general you might have a point, but since they academic standards for athletes are generally lower, then it is a benefit instead of a restriction.

A best guess is that Bryce has narrowed his choices to Oregon and Tennessee. Based on conversations I've had, the kid is very interested in how he will be promoted. Oregon has at its disposal the Nike marketing machine. That's not to say the kid would be hidden playing in the SEC at Tennessee (on CBS).

Oregon can further sell the nation's No. 2 rushing offense and a somewhat stable quarterback situation. Tennessee can sell the charismatic Lane Kiffin, his superstar staff and a program about to take off .

From the Dennis Dodd article...

The whole #2 rushing offense for UO seems bogus. Actually, I thought both Navy and Air Force had more rushing yards last year. Then play against similar defenses.

There's like... one defense in the Pac 10... and that's the one that dominates it. Simple equation but all of USC's foes continue to think they'll beat them with a better offense. It makes Pete look brilliant.

I wouldn't want the first defense I played against to be one in the NFL. Not only does that make scouts question what would happen if he played against good defenses (thus a lower draft pick), but it can shorten one's career considerably as the speed of the game makes old moves that worked ineffective at that level.
