If Nike pulls its support again, there's no way there are enough fans or interests in Oregon football to promote BB in any meaningful way.

Just saying...

Our program does not depend on the generosity of a single donor.

Neither does Oregon. It just gets a lot of publicity.

And Nike never pulled their support. Phil gave a ton to Oregon that same year. All that happened was that he had earmarked one donation for Oregon and, because of those rallies, sent it to Stanford instead.

Nothing Nike specific about it.

Non-story that some activists (ie. dorks) rallied about, pissed off Knight, were then debunked but have yet to swallow their pride.

In the five years since the sweatshop labor issue caused a temporary rift between the University of Oregon and it biggest donor, Nike executive Phil Knight, little has changed at garment and shoe factories worldwide, labor activists said.

What about this one?

DIALOGUE; Nike's Power Game - New York Times.

It's okay. Nike owns Oregon. We get it.

Why do you keep posting articles that support exactly what I have just told you and then pretend like you're showing something different?

Oregon has strong ties to Nike since it started there. It's a positive for the school that a great American company started there. It's part of Oregon's long history of athletics and achievement.

I see how you had to keep "athletics" separate from "achievement." :birgits_giggle:

H*@Y S@*T, DUDE!! You REALLY need to find another hobby. I am a casual reader of this post (and this site, for that matter) and I literally have not oppened this site in the past 3 weeks without reading some obligatory comment from you about the University of Oregon, Oregon (the state), Nike, Autzen Stadium, the Pacific Northwest, Jonathan Stewart, Dan Fouts, Steve Prefontaine, Oregon Trail (the game), etc.

Nobody here gives a flying f*%k. You have obviously already wasted an enormous amount of time on this site m-bating about Oregon, so I would recommend using your other hand (to prevent blistering or carpal tunnel) or finding a new hobby.

This may have sounded harsh, but I'd be willing to bet if you went back and read all of the posts you've written and realized how much time you've spent accomplishing nothing, you'd be embarrassed. Or, you'd be embarrassed if your friends read them.

Kind of like riding a scooter: fun until your friends see you.

The only reason I kept that separate is because starting a company isn't an athletic achievement. Oregon has many strong athletic programs in addition to football. You may have noticed that the US Olympic trials were held there recently.

Oregon's football program has gone a long ways in a short time. An NC title is not out of the question in the next few seasons. They are currently a top 10 team by many analysts measure.

A Vol Hostess leaked the news. Probably the same one who was in the FB pic with him.

He's coming this weekend, but back off the dude for everyone's (especially his) sake.

Or...it was intentionally leaked to build the very excitement you see here. PAINTING THE ROCK would be a good idea too and this gives a heads up.

I suggest that you direct your complaints to the posters who keep bringing it up.

If you read, you will see that I was asking questions about the Brown situation and rumors like everyone else. It was the usual suspects that initiated the Oregon/Nike comments.

I just find it interesting that you claimed that it was a non-story.

UT, and several other SEC schools, haven't joined the student movement, that you refer to as hippies only, so the anti-sweatshop movement hasn't yet made it to the southeast, yet.

WRC: Affiliate Schools

And, you keep saying Phil Knight did not consider withholding money unless Oregon squashed this movement on its campus.

Nike CEO Retracts University Donation over Human Rights

But, at least you know who butters your bread.

Just saying... no need for Brown to put his career in the hands of a man who's proven to be willing to pull his money unless the school does what he says it should.

In the spirit of keeping this thread somewhat on topic, I have a couple of questions for Wheaton: 1) to what extent do you believe that Oregon is realistically in the running for Brown; and 2) to the extent that they are in the running, do you believe it's because of the Nike connection?

You're an idiot if you think anyone here would be talking this much about Oregon if you weren't here. That's your whole purpose for being on this site. It's called Trolling.

Can he watch one of the spring practices or would that be a violation of some sort? I am wondering if this may be one of the purposes of his visit.

1) I'm not sure how to measure an extent. I think there are a lot of good reasons for Brown to go to Oregon and he has only said positive things about the program/coaches. So, I think it is realistic that he could go there. Assuming that the latest news that he is visiting UT is true, that sounds pretty good for UT and obviously hurts Oregon's chances. But, if he visited UT and still chose Oregon, it wouldn't be the first time that type of thing has happened. Maybe he knows the deal at Oregon but does not at UT and just wants to give them another look. Who knows.

2) I don't think that the Nike connection has a lot to do with it. I'm sure that it doesn't hurt. But, I think Brown is looking at more substantial factors. He said so when asked about Oregon and said that Oregon has the things he is looking for (beyond the Nike perks). Geography is the biggest hurdle for Oregon, imo. But, when you're looking at a life-changing decision, geography should be low on priorities if you ask me.

Nobody would be talking about Oregon right now if you hadn't brought it up. Stop bringing it up out of the blue, on your own accord and then pretending like I took the thread off topic.

utmba, PLEASE for the love of Monte Kiffin, STOP arguing with Wheaton about Oregon. It's getting old. And STHU Wheaton. Talk about Bryce Brown. No one cares about Oregon or Nike.
