BSU VS VT Time: 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, FedEx Field (91,704),

Man I was going to put money on VT -1, then I was relieved I didn't, now it could go either way.

You may not win money.

At least you won't lose any.

No point in putting money on toss ups.

Pointless betting on 50/50 games. Not if if you bet regularly anyways. Just going to end up with the same amount of money in the long run.

Peterson has lost what, 2 games in 4 years...been to two BCS bowls, knocked off a good Oklahoma team, and just put up more points on VT than most people have in the last 4 years? He has completely eclipsed what Meyer ever dreamed of doing at Utah...and he has done it at a school called "Boise State". He continually takes a bunch of Pac 10 reject recruits and makes them out to be all-americans.

I still contend, and flame away all you want because I don't care, Meyer is a fraud. His success has been a product of great backyard recruiting and a weak SEC east over the last 4 years. My two-year old son could coach Florida to 8 wins a year on their talent alone. Factor in a down UT and Georgia and 10 wins is next to impossible not to have at a school like Florida.

Week 1 performance of Florida and Boise State is exhibit A on a coaching comprison. Even if Boise State loses this game he has shown himself to be a better coach.

I don't intend to flame you, we all have our opinions, and yours may be different than my own, and that's fine.

Anyhow, yes, Chris Peterson is great. Most definitely a top 10 coach in the nation; But to say you'd take him over a coach who's won 2 national titles in 5 years, has only lost one one to his 3 major rivals combined, consistently brings in top 5 recruiting classes, 3 of which have been ranked #1, etc, etc, etc, is to me, an irrational claim.

It's only one game my friend...

I was wanting Chris last year over Kiffin..and I was told I was crazy for wanting Chris Petersen to coach Tennessee.

I only get defensive because I have been called dumb, etc...for this opinion...from both UF and Vol fans on here.

My case is the bolded. Over the last 4 years, I don't attribute that to coaching so much as I say it is a product of those teams not being very good...aka...good fortune. Have Meyer consistently coach against the UT's, Fla St., and Georgia of the 90's and early 2000's and he doesn't have two titles right now. Of course, hypotheticals are all opinions, but I think it is a valid assumption. I give credit to Meyer for bringing in arguably the best college football player in my generation and making the most of it. Meyer is a good coach, no doubt, but I don't believe for a second that Peterson couldn't have come in and done the same thing over the last 4 years.

USC tried to hire Petersen before hiring Kiffin.

Tennessee tried to hire Petersen after USC hired Kiffin.

Wanting him is irrelevant because he isn't going to leave. His wife or kid I believe has an illness or disease that a local hospital specializes in. Don't think he wants to leave the doctor who has worked with them their whole life.

Boise State... halftime was the best possible thing to happen to you

the point is people here ON THIS FORUM was telling me I was stupid for wanting Petersen here at Tennessee, saying "his style of coaching would never make it in the SEC" and now people here in this forum is saying he is a top 10 coach? sometimes other Tennessee fans piss me off thinking they are almighty and all knowing.

That isn't me. I much prefer civil conversations over the immature squabbles.

Has is ever occurred to you that perhaps it's Meyer's success at Florida that's stumped the successes of FSU, UGA, and UT?

I agree with your overall point. The sharks come out when the water is red then scatter when the food coloring dissipates.

No, I attribute that to Fulmer, Bowden, Richt and complacency they enjoyed resting on past success.

My definition of an elite coach is one who can take his players and yours and take yours and beat his. Guys like Meyer and Peterson fit that mold, Meyer doesn't, IMHO.

I wasn't one of them. I have always been a Peterson fan.

totally agree with this. however i also alot of meyers success at florida has to be given to tim tebow. wiht out tebow they dont beat bama in the sec champ game to go on and win the 2nd champ. this year he will prove if its really his coaching

I agree with the Tebow part, and Meyer gets credit for that. I think Tebow is an goofy, attention whoring bag of nuts...but the kid can ball for sure. Meyer...well...I place his maturity level somewhere near the runner-up of a high school prom queen, but given the right talent chemistry he can put a good football team together.

Least people forget, Meyer won a NC with Chris Leak at the helm.
