BTO’s Kentucky Postgame Report

Not sure why you don’t think Fulky can do this consistently as he’s been building up to this the last 3-4 games. It appears he’s recovering from his Covid setback. He’s able to play with energy 20+ minutes now. If he doesn’t have another setback he could end this season playing his best basketball.

I’m liking how this team is trending, especially ZZZ and Fulky peaking. If Aidoo can build off tonight’s performance. Gotta like our chances in the ncaa tourney!
Fulky took Oshiebwa to school last night.

Was anybody else miffed at the official's call at the conclusion of the Fulky in the bench incident. How they could T up 5 and NO UK player is beyond me. First there was the uncalled push in the back that forced Fulky to do the chunk it off a KY player and then as our guys all went over and extended their hands to assit Fulky up they were trapped by not only bench folks but also players on the floor. How did the refs ignore the following?

As per NCAA Rule 10-4.8 – Bench Technical Foul (Ejection) – It is a flagrant 2 foul for bench personnel, other than the head coach and one assistant coach, to leave the bench area when a fight may break out or has broken out. The head coach and one assistant coach may leave the bench area in this case to prevent the situation from escalating.

Anybody think the situation did not fit this language. Any player not in on the play who actually contacts the other team members is subject for sure.

-You’re right, at Arkansas and vs Auburn are the only remaining games we have an excuse to lose. Others would be disappointing, although beating Arkansas at home would be a big win. Now that we have the Kentucky win under our belt, I’m going to predict a 4-1 finish, for a 23-7 regular season record. Win one in the SECT and even if we lose the next game, that’s 24-8. Guessing we get a 3 seed with that, given our schedule.
-Speaking of Arkansas, I’m already excited about Saturday. I’m not predicting a win or a loss, just looking forward to seeing this team compete in Bud Walton. That environment might actually be a blessing. Sometimes, teams facing a possible letdown get “woken up” playing in big time atmosphere.
-I’m afraid my concerns about JJJ after the Vanderbilt game appear to have been well-founded. It looks like the 3-game post-Texas run of good offense was an aberration for him. The pre-Texas JJJ is what we can probably expect going forward. It’s too bad, because I really thought we were going to get a guy who provided a well rounded inside outside offensive game that opens things up for everyone else. We’ll have to settle for a guy who plays defense, rebounds and, hopefully, doesn’t waste offensive possessions as he did last night.
-Powell needs to leave the rotation. He’s not just missing shots (and making shots is what he’s there to do), he’s a huge defensive liability.
-Aidoo really excites me. As much as it hurt to lose Nkamhoua, getting Aidoo in there has given UT a defensive inside presence that we haven’t seen this year. The great thing is, ZZ and Aidoo are just freshmen and they’ll both be around 3-4 years. Then throw in the fact that BHH, Maishack, Q, and Tamba are all guys who will develop with upside, and I think the future is bright. Even just looking at the immediate future (next year), we have a ton of talent returning and which will be better.
-Fulkerson is finally coming back around and it couldn’t happen at a better time. He’s making quicker decisions, playing good defense, setting screens, rebounding, and leading. I’d forgotten what it was like to have him as a force.
-Rick Barnes deserves a ton of credit. Not just for last night, but for this season. He’s really tapped into this team’s potential and has them playing at their best at the right time. He’s overcome the loss of his best interior offensive presence and brought Aidoo around. His scout of Kentucky was not only tremendous, but he also had the team ready to play inspired, but controlled (not over-emotional). The “Barnes ain’t worth what we pay him” crowd can pound sand. In the meantime, they’re just silent.

Rick Barnes is now 9-7 vs. Calipari and Kentucky as Tennessee’s head coach.

James got in early foul trouble but still managed to make eight points. I think he's still playing very well.

Did anyone else watch the game on ESPN + or the app? The Duke game went long so I switched it over to ESPN + and it was a "raw" feed with cameras above the shot clocks. No announcer, just Jeff Jarnigan. I never turned it to the network coverage. Interesting perspective of the game.

Barnes said when we played Kentucky at Rupp 'we had the offense, but defense was lacking'. Not enough has been said about the way ALL our guys transitioned back to defense when we missed a shot. Kentucky could not shake them loose.

Anyone who says Barnes is not a good coach needs to have a head examination.
The narrative for the Rupp matchup was that Ky just couldn't miss. They probably were the hottest they were gonna be all year but they got any shot they wanted wherever they wanted. Last night the open looks just weren't there.

Saw that. UP was terrible and getting owned by the Kentucky big man(want attempt to spell his name). It was very noticeable how bad he was pushed around on this feed. It just wasn't a good matchup for him and he didn't play much after that.

I thought he was off for the first time in a while. He got beat on defense several times and it was part of why he got in foul trouble. Didn't shoot well just like the Vandy game but against Vandy he played great in every other phase. Last night not so much.

I think ZZ got caught because he was on the outside of the scrum and visible on the TV feed. Assistant coaches shouldn't be involved in something like this.

If we can get this kind of offensive production in the NCAA Tournament, we are a definite contender for that elusive Final Four. The defensive intensity seems to pick up when we're playing so well on offense. It's so fun when we play our best ball against our stiffest competition and performances like that will be hard for anyone to beat.

Great write-up, BTO.

9-7 vs. Kentucky says it all...............

I just want to know what the one no name staffer for UK was trying to do. One of the staff members was attempting to help Fulky up. The one in white, I believe, stepped in front of Fulkerson, blocking every one on the Vols team. That’s what started everything. He had to either be intentionally trying to block them or he was trying to yell at the ref and either way he should of been ejected. SEC refs aren’t great, but I still wouldn’t be having some random end of the bench staffer complaining to me. I’ll listen to the head coach and maybe a couple of the primary assistants, I’m not listening to the dude refilling the Gatorade bottles at the end of the bench run his mouth though.

Yeah, I think there were words exchanged that caused the whole incident. Didn't look like they were doing anything but helping the Fulky up and then all of a sudden it blew up.
