BTO’s Kentucky Postgame Report

If someone can give me a good reason why the S&C made it point to walk from out of the way to right in the way at that exact moment, I'm all ears. He clearly wasn't trying to help Fulk up, and if he was trying to get to Cal all he had to do was take a step or 2 to his left and go around. If he doesn't do what he did, none of that happens.

Great point and I missed that, he for sure made a point to step in and stick his tiny little chest out.

Gotta love the enthusiasm, but the student section needs to rethink its messaging. Why alert an opponent's struggling offense to the clock?
Heh - in my day we didn't have no stinking shot clock. Many was the time you could leave your seat, go drain the lizard, re-stock at the concessions, return to your seat - and we were still in the same possession. Still rotating the ball, trying unsuccessfully to dump the ball down low to Kosmalski. And I'm not even talking about the Temple game..

And Santi was pushed a couple of times. In the back by a KY player and then WTH was the coach in the sports coat doing? TN player got the last push in on that coach.

Longing for the days of the four corners? ;)

Yeah, watch that video. Vescovi is the first player over there to help Fulky up, but the S&C literally jumps in front of him like he was trying to take a charge. Vescovi kind of nudges him out of the way toward Ziegler, but Z wasn‘t having it and pushed him.

There actually was a Kentucky assistant coach (wearing blue, not white) who was doing the right thing and helping Fulky up before the other Kentucky dude did something stupid.

We probably should thank that coach wearing white, because the incident fired up the Vols and right after that we went on a huge run that put us in front for good.

Kentucky is a lot of things, but they are not overrated. UT beat a very good team very soundly. My only question is whether or not UT is underrated. GBO!
They certainly aren't overrated, but what they are is limited from a depth perspective. They played 7 guys double-digit minutes, 4 of which played 30+. Tennessee played 8 guys double-digit minutes and another who played 9 minutes.

If TyTy is out, UK goes from a Final Four good, to Sweet Sixteen good. He's that good, and they are that limited in terms of depth.

Kentucky had 18 ORebs and still lost by 13 points. That's almost impossible.
A good amount of their offensive rebounds came from getting their shot blocked and getting the ball right back. Tshiebwe had his shot blocked like 4 times last night and probably got every single one of those back (he barely jumps on those shots, so it's not like it really had a chance to go to many other people).

Our interior defense made it tough on them all night, and they didn't really seem to kick it out to shooters once they got those offensive rebounds.

A like for spinning the phrase drain the lizard. Been awhile since I heard that one

Little dude looked like he was trying to be a bodyguard for the one coach who was actually helping Fulk up. I bet in school he was the guy who started the fight then slipped away to the sidelines to watch.

Caller to Basilio just asked about Plav wearing a back brace while he was on the bench. It actually looked like an electric device to alleviate pain. It had a couple of lights on it that were flashing. The caller was asking about an injury. Basilio of course did not know, but took the opportunity to bash Uros for not being a consistent contributor.

I thought it was some kind of heating pad

Bro are you really still going on about this? The UK guy didn't put hands on anyone. Zeigler did. All I said is that I don't see how you don't call a tech on Zeigler. I know you're not an idiot.
I dont mind the tech so much on Zeigler, even though the UK assistant caused the entire issue. For the tech to occur on our player, and not one of theirs was my issue. Count how many of their players left their seats.

Their assistant should have been removed from the bench and every one of their players that left their seats should have received a technical.

As for their players I understood the tech is if they leave their seats and come onto the court

Not sure the entire cotext of this running discussion or your understanding of it, but Zeigler did receive a tech. You may already know that, and my apologies if that's the case.

-You’re right, at Arkansas and vs Auburn are the only remaining games we have an excuse to lose. Others would be disappointing, although beating Arkansas at home would be a big win. Now that we have the Kentucky win under our belt, I’m going to predict a 4-1 finish, for a 23-7 regular season record. Win one in the SECT and even if we lose the next game, that’s 24-8. Guessing we get a 3 seed with that, given our schedule.
-Speaking of Arkansas, I’m already excited about Saturday. I’m not predicting a win or a loss, just looking forward to seeing this team compete in Bud Walton. That environment might actually be a blessing. Sometimes, teams facing a possible letdown get “woken up” playing in big time atmosphere.
-I’m afraid my concerns about JJJ after the Vanderbilt game appear to have been well-founded. It looks like the 3-game post-Texas run of good offense was an aberration for him. The pre-Texas JJJ is what we can probably expect going forward. It’s too bad, because I really thought we were going to get a guy who provided a well rounded inside outside offensive game that opens things up for everyone else. We’ll have to settle for a guy who plays defense, rebounds and, hopefully, doesn’t waste offensive possessions as he did last night.
-Powell needs to leave the rotation. He’s not just missing shots (and making shots is what he’s there to do), he’s a huge defensive liability.
-Aidoo really excites me. As much as it hurt to lose Nkamhoua, getting Aidoo in there has given UT a defensive inside presence that we haven’t seen this year. The great thing is, ZZ and Aidoo are just freshmen and they’ll both be around 3-4 years. Then throw in the fact that BHH, Maishack, Q, and Tamba are all guys who will develop with upside, and I think the future is bright. Even just looking at the immediate future (next year), we have a ton of talent returning and which will be better.
-Fulkerson is finally coming back around and it couldn’t happen at a better time. He’s making quicker decisions, playing good defense, setting screens, rebounding, and leading. I’d forgotten what it was like to have him as a force.
-Rick Barnes deserves a ton of credit. Not just for last night, but for this season. He’s really tapped into this team’s potential and has them playing at their best at the right time. He’s overcome the loss of his best interior offensive presence and brought Aidoo around. His scout of Kentucky was not only tremendous, but he also had the team ready to play inspired, but controlled (not over-emotional). The “Barnes ain’t worth what we pay him” crowd can pound sand. In the meantime, they’re just silent.

Rick Barnes is now 9-7 vs. Calipari and Kentucky as Tennessee’s head coach.
I was at the UNC Green game, and Q; the kid from France has Pons like athletic ability. He gonna be good.
