BTO’s Kentucky Postgame Report

Students lose points for the “Overrated!!!” chant with more than 5 minutes remaining. It’s stupid at any point in the game. Especially stupid when the opponent could still knock down a few 3s and be right back in the game.
I never understood the overrated chant. Why diminish your win? Maybe they should chant "we're underrated ".

Always has been a dumb chant whenever it is employed. Don't you want the team you are about to beat to be properly highly rated? Beating a legit highly rated team means the winner has done something special. Beating a weak, overrated, team is, well, meh... Dumb and overused chant.

Not to pile on, but the first half of the season and beyond, OUR student section was yelling the 6-5-4-3-2-1 directed at our opponents as THEY were trying to get a shot. It was timed maybe 2 seconds earlier than the shot clock. So, in effect, they alerted the other team time was winding down. This actually worked in the visitors favor. Just dopey.

Technically, ZZ pushed him first. You can see it on the slo mo replay.

Because he made it a point to stand right in the way of everyone trying to help Fulk up. He stepped right into their way when anyone with sense would move back. And actually Vescovi pushed him first to get him to move. Dude was being a jackass.

According to @Chris4Vols22 not UKs problem. ZZ is the main culprit. His fault only.

If someone can give me a good reason why the S&C made it point to walk from out of the way to right in the way at that exact moment, I'm all ears. He clearly wasn't trying to help Fulk up, and if he was trying to get to Cal all he had to do was take a step or 2 to his left and go around. If he doesn't do what he did, none of that happens.

Gotta love the enthusiasm, but the student section needs to rethink its messaging. Why alert an opponent's struggling offense to the clock?

-You’re right, at Arkansas and vs Auburn are the only remaining games we have an excuse to lose. Others would be disappointing, although beating Arkansas at home would be a big win. Now that we have the Kentucky win under our belt, I’m going to predict a 4-1 finish, for a 23-7 regular season record. Win one in the SECT and even if we lose the next game, that’s 24-8. Guessing we get a 3 seed with that, given our schedule.
-Speaking of Arkansas, I’m already excited about Saturday. I’m not predicting a win or a loss, just looking forward to seeing this team compete in Bud Walton. That environment might actually be a blessing. Sometimes, teams facing a possible letdown get “woken up” playing in big time atmosphere.
-I’m afraid my concerns about JJJ after the Vanderbilt game appear to have been well-founded. It looks like the 3-game post-Texas run of good offense was an aberration for him. The pre-Texas JJJ is what we can probably expect going forward. It’s too bad, because I really thought we were going to get a guy who provided a well rounded inside outside offensive game that opens things up for everyone else. We’ll have to settle for a guy who plays defense, rebounds and, hopefully, doesn’t waste offensive possessions as he did last night.
-Powell needs to leave the rotation. He’s not just missing shots (and making shots is what he’s there to do), he’s a huge defensive liability.
-Aidoo really excites me. As much as it hurt to lose Nkamhoua, getting Aidoo in there has given UT a defensive inside presence that we haven’t seen this year. The great thing is, ZZ and Aidoo are just freshmen and they’ll both be around 3-4 years. Then throw in the fact that BHH, Maishack, Q, and Tamba are all guys who will develop with upside, and I think the future is bright. Even just looking at the immediate future (next year), we have a ton of talent returning and which will be better.
-Fulkerson is finally coming back around and it couldn’t happen at a better time. He’s making quicker decisions, playing good defense, setting screens, rebounding, and leading. I’d forgotten what it was like to have him as a force.
-Rick Barnes deserves a ton of credit. Not just for last night, but for this season. He’s really tapped into this team’s potential and has them playing at their best at the right time. He’s overcome the loss of his best interior offensive presence and brought Aidoo around. His scout of Kentucky was not only tremendous, but he also had the team ready to play inspired, but controlled (not over-emotional). The “Barnes ain’t worth what we pay him” crowd can pound sand. In the meantime, they’re just silent.

Rick Barnes is now 9-7 vs. Calipari and Kentucky as Tennessee’s head coach.

A whole lot of our perception of “” had a bad night has to do with how a team defends us. Last night JJJ faced their best defensive guard and a PF in help. He didn’t shoot well, but he also didn’t have a lot of opportunities. That same overcommitted PF gave Fulkerson the most space he’s had all year. He dribbled right past OT, and there was no help. A few nights ago everyone had written off Fulkerson and his “bad nights”. The great thing about this team is that everyone is a scoring threat. Sadly Powell is the one misfit toy. Now that we’ve moved to more motion and back cuts, his open set shot is gone. Everyone else contributes something meaningful on offense.

I’m with you completely. Looking at it again dude wasn’t even on the bench. He was way off to the side. Walked over and prevented Fulkerson from getting back to the court and the other players from helping him up. More I watch it I believe he absolutely wanted to chest up with someone or just be an a-hole. He looks smaller than Zakai. Uros should of went over and threw him in about the third row. In seriousness though, he absolutely should of been tossed by the refs.

That's my take, I think he was trying to be intimidating; which actually makes Vescovi and ZZ just casually pushing him away even funnier to me now.

I just want to know what the one no name staffer for UK was trying to do. One of the staff members was attempting to help Fulky up. The one in white, I believe, stepped in front of Fulkerson, blocking every one on the Vols team. That’s what started everything. He had to either be intentionally trying to block them or he was trying to yell at the ref and either way he should of been ejected. SEC refs aren’t great, but I still wouldn’t be having some random end of the bench staffer complaining to me. I’ll listen to the head coach and maybe a couple of the primary assistants, I’m not listening to the dude refilling the Gatorade bottles at the end of the bench run his mouth though.
The short guy in the white shirt should have been ejected from the building. There’s no place for coaches or staff members to be getting into it with players from the other team. When Fulky first fell it appeared on tv the dude was taunting him. If that had been a fan he would have been arrested and to be honest the water boy is nothing more than a glorified fan.

Well, midget tossing is a real sport in Serbia!

Your seeing something completely different from me if you think what occurred was ZZZ “pushing”. ZZZ put his hand out trying to create some space between his teammates and the ky bench who were crowded around him preventing Fulky clear access to return to the court. That midget asshat reacted like a punk hs kid trying to chest bump our players. Cal should ban him from the bench area as he clearly lacks the self control to be there. Coaches are supposed to provide leadership not instigate trouble. I’d be calling for the same if it was a UT staffer. I really think the league should get involved with this incident.

Yeah, I’ve often wondered if the ones starting that were just well-intended enthusiastic students who really didn’t have a clue about basketball.

I prefer “We are better”. It doesn’t diminish the team’s accomplishment by beating an ”overrated” team (which they weren’t anyway).
