Bump Infraction

Because UT fought the charge and it was taken off of them. I didn't say use the same strategy, I simply said it would be crazy not to fight the charges.
Well the tearful apology didnt work. So you are right! Let us be defiant to the end!

What does Pearl's apology have to do with UT and an appeal?

because the infraction happened after he admitted to lying. I believe they're classifying it as major because of the timing (but not 100% on that)

They are, but that isn't what I am talking about. I was asking what Pearl's apology has to do with UT appealing the LOI.

Take the basketball program down in a blaze of fury against the NCAA. We'll still have Pearl, but no program.

any program would choose to answer the letter. Not really sure what the question is about this. They are going to answer every charge and not just the bump one

I agree. I was responding to cd12 who said we should not respond or appeal the allegations.

appealing the bump violation down to a secondary isn't really going to matter much anyway

yeah it shouldn't be a major violation - I think they just made it major due to the timing since it was right after his press conference apology - but before the recruiting suspension.

Problem was we also didn't self-report it as a violation, meaning Pearl likely lied again to the staff about what happened (e.g., Pearl said he didn't have a 2-3 minute conversation with the kid, but just said "hi" or something like that, making it a permissible 'bump" rather than an impermissible "off-campus recruitment"). I'm sure the NCAA will believe Pearl over their other sources @ Oak Hill because of how credible Pearl is.

It could get some of the accusations thrown out or reduced to minor violations? Who knows? UT definitely won't know if they don't appeal.

which still won't lessen the blow from the rest of the letter. It's like thinking the smoke machine incident is what caused Kiffin's downfall

Appeal would be a good thing unless you think the NCAA cannot make a mistake.

Appeals delay certainty and rarely have much benefit, unless you're trying to delay the effect of the sanctions (which also can delay rebuilding time). The chance of winning an appeal against the NCAA is remote.

I'm not sure. I would believe each case would be handled on a case by case basis by the NCAA. I guess the better question would be what do we have to lose at this point?

I'm not saying to not answer it but it really won't matter one bit. It's not going to be the deciding factor between a post-season ban or not. All the allegations will be answered inside the deadline and the decision will be made. I feel like this is nitpicking by some ardent Pearl supporters to make it all look better.
