You BDS sufferers can't have it both ways. Bush is either a buffoon who is barely able to tie his shoes and chew gum or he is an evil genius capable of pulling off an event like 9-11 and keeping it covered up for almost 7 years.
1. Iraq
2. economy
4. gas prices
5. He wants to veto taking away tax incentives for oil companys.
6. His speeches and the way he comes across like an idiot.
7. The FL election win
8. Basing decisions on prayer.
This is a false choice. He is clearly the first person you described. No one would intentionally make a fool of himself for as long as Bush has. It just defies reason.
There were some evil brainiacs involved in Iraq, but IMO they were simply as much ideologues as they were malevolent. I do tgink that guys like Cheney and Rove had some interest in ginning things up a bit and using 9/11 as an excuse to go after Hussein. And I don't believe they really thought through the consequences.
But I also think that they were sincere in their desire to get rid of Hussein. It wasn't for oil or anything like that. I believe they really thought Hussein was a bad guy who would be a threat. But they jumped the gun on Iraq, used 9/11 as a pretext, and did not consider the long-term effects of their policy choices.
They manipulated Bush -- who was predisposed to their point of view anyway -- and the intelligence they were getting was not so much crafted as much as it errantly focused attention on the slightest of indicia of proof that they wanted to see and already believed.
Had they taken a deep breath and asked themselves whether Iraq really had anything to do with 9/11 and/or had they believed the intelligence that said that Hussein was not in fact after WMD, then they'd have maybe slowed that train down long enough to avoid what seems on its face to have been a war the cost of which is many times the benefit.
MG you are good at the politics thing I cant compete.1. for invading in the first place and legitimizing the UN, or the mishandling of things since the fall of Saddam?
2. 5% unemployment, low taxes, and low interest rates? If you think this economy is bad, you weren't around for the Carter administration.
3. umm... you skipped 3.
4. The government takes nearly 10 times what the oil companies make on a gallon of gas.
5. So you want to make it MORE expensive for the oil companies to do business?
6. You got me on that one. I can't listen to him speechify, but not because I think he's an idiot, he's just a Texan.
7. Bush wanted a statewide recount, Al Gore only wanted a recount in certain areas, which would have been a violation of the Equal Protection Clause.
8. I'd rather he prayed for guidance as opposed to keeping a fat, beret-wearing intern under his desk.
