Bush is just such a buffoon

I do think people also underestimate severely the cost of this war to us economically. Its not just the amount of raw money (which is astounding), its the opportunity cost. There is also, I am convinced, a long-term cost to this built into the cost of a barrel of oil and its choking this economy to an absurd point.

How do you exercise personal responsibility if it's illegal to do so?

Abortions would be illegal but if you wanted to go to some back alley and have someone use a coathanger on you then that is your business. The personal responsibility aspect comes in being responsible for your decisions (to have sex etc.) Should have been clearer PJ.

Sadly we have too many far left justices on the supreme court. Until that changes no one can do anything about abortions. Whatever your stand on abortion you would have to admit it is being used as birth control these days. I think it should be used in special cases. Many would argue that no one can tell a woman what to do with her body. Some women want to sell their bodies. Is that legal? No, but no one is stopping them. They just have to pay the penalty if they get caught. The same should be with abortion. We will not make it legal but you are free to seek the procedure where you can find it. Is there such a thing as personal responsibility?

I'm against abortion but I don't vote for someone based on that issue because no one does anything about it. Abortion is an emotional election day issue that gets put at the back of the line once the campaign is over.

As true a statement as I have heard on this board.

But you are picking/choosing when a person has the ability to exercise personal resp. You say it when it pertains to sex but not when it has to do with keeping an inborn child that they may not be able to afford, be responsible enough to have, etc. You are talking about self-control instead.

I have never thought of Bush as particularly devoted to religious or moral policy. He's much more about the Benjamins than the Bible.

If we have laws to protect innocent beings like dogs, cats etc., why shouldn't there be laws to protect innocent unborn babies?

I know people like to argue when a fetus becomes a baby or whatever, but wouldn't everyone agree even a potential human being is worth far more to protect and have rights than a dog?

So, what about every other sob story in the world?

Why choose Iraq?

I'm not advocating the Iraq choice - just suggesting what might have happened if Gore was POTUS and as a result we chose not to go into Iraq.

The same is true with every other sob story. Do something about it and bad things happen. Don't do something about it and bad things happen.

You are putting the cart before the horse. If you cannot afford to have children then do not get pregnant! It is very simple. I know that people who are not responsible will not follow that line of thinking though. Either way we are paying for their children either by means of abortion or government assistance.

PJ, many people struggle with having children. I know of two very deserving and kind hearted couples that have suffered through 3 miscarriages each and are considering adoption. Abortion is not the answer.

I was adopted at 2 weeks old.

Many couples who want to adopt end up going overseas.

Many responsible young women who get pregnant at a young age or who simply can't afford to raise a baby find good people to adopt their babies. That is the most responsible thing I could think of doing in a situation like that. You are making both the babies life better as well as the adopting person/persons.

I was validating the point that we should discourage abortion in the U.S due to situations like the one I stated above. It is possible for Americans to adopt American born children. My brother was adopted in 1971. I know it is possible despite what "Branglena" think or do.

No it is trendy to adopt from abroad look at Brad Pitt and AJ:)

True. It is very expensive here or anywhere for that matter. In America babies are in demand but there are not enough to meet this demand. Sadly at the same time there are older children who get passed up.

Maybe not for you or them but who are we to make these laws that others must follow? "Please exercise "personal responsibility" up to a certain point but after that the gov't will decide what's best for you." What kind of crap idea is that? Someone having an abortion has absolutely no bearing or consequence on anyone else's life but their own. As long as they are not infringing on my rights as a US citizen I see no issue with them being allowed to make a stupid decision.

What about the unborn baby, does it have rights?

I am for abortion under strict guidlines but you know how that works out. I do understand people who are against it though.

In the Rose Garden, the Pope gave a speech and afterwards Bush said to him "Thankyou, your Holiness."

"Awesome Speech."

What an idiot.

And can you believe that the first lady actually had the gall to wear white like the Pope. A total lack of class and breach of protocol. :)

that's up for an individual's interpretation.

My personal feeling is I don't view it to be a "baby" until it can sustain life on its own. Until then the mother has the responsibility and the choice to make with her body.
