Butch interested in Maryland job

That would be a better fit for him - he'd probably do well there. The fan base will be much more patient.

I'm very curious to follow his career at his next stop, and there WILL BE a next stop despite the folks who seem to think he'll never be a head coach again. Absolutely ridiculous.

As a UT fan living in Maryland, I'm conflicted. It'd help UT's buyout situation, but I'm not sure I can handle the thought of Butch Jones press conferences/interviews being back on my local news stations.
Matt Canada has done a decent job as interim so far, so I'm curious to see if they keep him in that role permanently (if he's interested).

And yeah, the board of regents threatened to fire the President initially if he didn't bring Durkin back. Apparently some lawmakers/others got involved and swayed the decision.

I kind of wish all of our XHCs would land some major college football jobs.

Saturday’s would be more interesting to just check in on each of them from time to time. Dream scenario would be:

Dooley at Mizzou
Kiffen at Auburn
Jones at a Mississippi school
Fulmer at Bama..... and purposeful runs it into the ground. :)

I suspect he'll make a few adjustments to his press conference and coaching style based on learnings from his time at UT. At least you'd hope so...

I understand what you mean though - you know what you'll get with him. Pretty good sometimes, pretty bad other times.

How do? He couldn’t win with consecutive top 5 classes here. He won’t recruit at anywhere near that level at Maryland.

Also, he’d have to play Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and Michigan State every year. He couldn’t even beat James Franklin at Vandy; how could he do it at Penn State?

Maryland would be a perfect fit for BJ. His style of coaching and recruiting would work well there. It's removed from the SEC and up and coming players might not judge him as harshly as they would here in the South. Sometimes another place is simply a better fit.

Another school which will not hire Schiano....but guess that's another topic.

He’d be in a tougher division than the one he never won in 5 years here.

Don't forget the internship with Bama :) Adjustments weren't exactly Butch's thing when he was here, but you never know.

FTFY. It's a college team in a pro town, and Maryland has never really been a football school. Middle of the pack in the B10 seems to be the expectation, anything else is just icing on the cake.

He wouldn't have to win there to any significant degree. 7-5 season with a weedeater bowl trip would probably keep him employed.

Oh yea, all he’ll need is 5-7 years to rebuild Maryland’s program if he even lasts that long.

He’s not beating Harbaugh, Meyer, or James Franklin with lesser talent.

A middling ACC program is the type of place he could retire at. Perfect spot for him
.

Except Md. is in the Big-10. I would be stunned if they hired him. UNC would be a better fit. Low expectations, wait until Cut retires and Doreen leaves and those 2 schools turn bad again.
