Butch interested in Maryland job

I suspect he'll make a few adjustments to his press conference and coaching style based on learnings from his time at UT. At least you'd hope so...

I understand what you mean though - you know what you'll get with him. Pretty good sometimes, pretty bad other times.

Should he have mentioned the program he works for now?? Don't you think he will learn a few things there too?

How do? He couldn’t win with consecutive top 5 classes here. He won’t recruit at anywhere near that level at Maryland.

Also, he’d have to play Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and Michigan State every year. He couldn’t even beat James Franklin at Vandy; how could he do it at Penn State?
Except Maryland fans don't expect to contend for the Big 10 championship. If they can consistently go 7-5 and play in middling bowl games that's good enough for them. It's a perfect fit for someone like Jones.

Pretty sure a school that fired a coach related to the death of a player isn't going to hire a coach who was rumored to have punched a player at practice

Rumored, never proved. Here say is a killer and how more rumors get started. You really want to be that guy? Really? It's so easy to tear the man down for 2017, losing games he shouldn't have but he did many things to get the Program back on track. So the man stank at PC's........ It's so easy to forget the good and harp on the bad.

One quick question would be are you 100% in everything you do in your day to day life? If so, show me the scars Pal. Guess what you don't have them in your palms, feet, and side. Drop the pompous attitude and leave the man be. If he were to take the job and they wanted him just think of the money we (UT) would save (And by saying we, I paid for numerous years (Section N row 30, seats 24-27) as a season ticket holder, but when my son started high school and played and then moved to college football, my money supports him and left a ton of points on the table. My money has always gone to UT and after son finishes his college career, it will again.) Light bulb go off yet why this would be a GOOD THING yet? My advice to you is let it go and just give the man props for what he did and don't focus on what he didn't do. We have a coach now that will right the ship and bring us back, but this attitude of sniping at CBJ at every turn is old and drivel. Sorry, the man did a ton of good that he won't ever get credit for from fanatics like yourself.

If Butch is to be a head coach next year; most likely it would be at a division II school which he really doesn’t want. Butch really thinks he has an inside track on a coordinator job at Alabama where he can get a leg up on another premium coaching gig. I think Saban is just playing games with him though.

Agree. I really don't see where Butch has a skill set to be a coordinator. With the exception of running his offense under his tutelage would not be successful in the SEC. He has proven he cannot manage at the HC level and cannot adequately advise his assistants effectively.

I agree that it wasn’t all bad...until last year. It was a house of cards here that fell in on him because he was in over his head. We would have one less win for sure right now, be decimated with injuries again, be truly sweating the Charlotte game, and have no hope of beating anyone else. Him returning would have cemented back to back 0-8 seasons in the SEC. JG wouldn’t have progressed and Chryst wouldn’t be here, neither would Shrout. Adrian Martinez possibly would be to Butch’s credit but there’s no guarantee of that and he wouldn’t be ready even if he were. He pulled us out of a mess and then dumped us right back in. Had we gone 6-7 with a bowl loss and the admin moved in another direction I don’t think there would’ve been quite the vitriol for Jones but he produced the worst UT record ever and left freaking Ohio St now as the only team never to lose 8 games. The post-Bama game celebration alone shows we easily made the right call. He should show some respect to the place he lived for years, the kids he brought in here, and the school that is still funding his household. Oh well. Life moves on.

Couldn't agree more about his reaction after the Bama game... if he knew what was good for him he'd show up to work with his hard hat on, pull some wisdom from Saban and then move on to his next opportunity. Like a professional.

It's easy for me to say that from here tho... there's a good chance that if i was Butch, i would've smoked that cigar until I burned my finger tips.

Everyone talks about last season, and I get it... what an embarrassment and total let down. BUT part of me feels like it was due to the circumstances... who know's how things would have played out last season if there wasn't so much noise from the fans and media. I'm just not sure I believe last season represents the true story.

Either way, even our 9-4 seasons felt a little disappointing. We never could get the win we needed to propel us to the next level.

Like you said, it wasn't all bad with Butch but I'm excited at the prospect of CJP and seeing what he can do. I would LOVE for us to have an elite defense again.

Butch brought a lot of it on himself.

He brought in good assistants, had the resources to win. It’s not like he didn’t have a great program to work with. If he would have let Shoop do his damn job and bring in the guys he wanted to help run his defense, maybe it wouldn’t have been as bad.

His own ego got in the way of what was more important in the heart of the fans.... WINS!

A good majority of the fans including me, was blind sided on how fake this man really was. We kept believing his tactics were good for the team. We kept believing 7-8 wins and a meaningless Bowl Game, was heading in the right direction.

We were NEVER going anywhere under Butch as long as he was Captain of the Ship.

To top it off, him acting like an insecure a$$ hole after the Bama win in Neyland Stadium made me realize how big of a joke he really is. No use for him after that.
