Crutch? My friends buried their 3 year old a few months ago. Things don't seem okay, but they believe God is on His throne and they go to Him in their agony. We cry out to him together. I am dealing with crippling health issues that have sidelined me at 38, my faith isn't a "crutch", it's something I believe even when things aren't okay. It's belief that one day they will be okay. It would be easier to not believe what I do, and to act on my instincts and desires instead of denying myself to follow Him. I really don't like these debates on here but comments like this demand some insight.

It is your belief. I do not share your belief. Do not let that upset you.

Not upset but when you call it a crutch, I feel ccompelled to share why that is not accurate. I know this sounds corny, but if that is what you think Christianity is, I care too much not to clarify and share why I believe as I do. It's not about being a good person or positive thinking, etc. IIt'sabout being persuaded that it's truth and having a relationship with Christ.

Your insecurity is consuming you. Why is Christianity a such a threat to you that you feel compelled to ridicule it?

Ridicule is much easier than having an honest, open discussion about the merits or demerits of belief systems.

Armchair like everyone else operates on some system of faith.... some people don't even know they do because they've never thought it through. They've just trusted someone who gave them a "just so" answer without really "proving it".

He's likely a materialist. Probably thinks of himself as an atheist. The materialist says the only things that are real and "true" are material... things that can be tested and proven by science... and in saying so disprove their own position since that is a statement that is neither material nor subject to scientific proofs.

One that applies to a large portion of our fan base....

Lol. I respect your beliefs bro. But it is my belief that your christian word twist you did right there is self serving in that it is a indirect way of saying I am wrong. But thanks for the hymn.

Then I'll say it more directly. You are wrong. I don't serve myself in correcting you, but rather you. It's up to you to receive it with gratitude or foolishly reject it, but insulting faith in Christ by calling it "magic" and "just a crutch" is bull that should be called out and corrected.

I agree and have no problem at all with what the pastor is doing. Like I said if faith makes you a better person then have at it. I just can't stand it when someone says that morality comes from belief.

While morality may not come from a person's belief in God, it does come from a belief in what is right and wrong. There must be a basis for those categories.

We all have beliefs of some kind.

I respect your right to believe in something different than what I believe.

Sorry but there is not significant evidence for a resurrection.

Have you read Lee Stroebel's book "The Case for Christ"? He was an aggressive and committed atheist and reporter for a Chicago newspaper. His original intent was to destroy the faith of some friends that got on his nerves talking about their Christian faith. He knew enough to know that Paul said the gospel hinges on the resurrection... so that's where he attacked.

After months of looking at "evidence"... he became a believer.

Josh McDowell has a very similar testimony.

Perhaps the best evidence for the resurrection is the well documented martyrdom of believers within the first 100 years after Christ. Most could have saved their lives by denying the resurrection.

Would you die for something you knew to be untrue?

It's not respecting someone's beliefs to refer to Christianity as magic, as you did in your very first sentence.

I watched it and Sam was on point as always. I also love that he points out the BS on the Left and Right. He isn't chained to identity politics and calls BS wherever he sees it. Hitchens was the same way.

Don't believe in magic. To those that do. That is your opinion. I've always viewed religion as a crutch used by people to make the bad things they do seem ok because God forgives them. If believing in something that is rationally and scientifically impossible floats your boat good for you.

I don't believe in magic either. Christianity doesn't depend on that. An omnipotent God's ability to suspend the laws of nature that He created... cannot be described as "magic".

But since we're on the topic... abiogenesis is "magic"... yet the whole theory of evolution depends on it. Logic demands that every effect have an equal or greater cause... but big bang cosmology says that a dense ball of matter for absolutely know reason at all began to expand against impossible forces.... that's pretty much magic.

It's actually the most significant event ever witnessed in all of eternity by the same life and power (the living word of God made flesh) who created the universe (and Earth) in the first place. Christ has the preeminence before all things and by him all things consist, held together by the word of His power. Colossians 1:17 Science is beginning to come around to this truth but still lags behind until it's accepted.

What gets me is how most non-believers are quick to let their beliefs (or lack-there-of) be known and then proceed to act like they know what everyone else should believe.

Kind of hypocritical if you ask me.

Was talking about this the other day with someone. Ive never understood how atheist get so offended by something they believe doesnt exist.

You claim it's just a difference of opinion but, like Armchair, you feel compelled to mock it by calling it a crutch and magic. You guys just can't help yourself.
