Butch Jones = Kevin Sumlin ???

Both from smaller/weaker conferences but have won wherever they have coached. Butch has won conference titles and has plenty of 10 win seasons, and Sumlin did pretty well against Conference USA opponents.

Sumlin's team was doubted at the beginning of the season just like Tennessee's team will be. I believe the difference will be coaching, and I'm glad we have Butch here. He gets the most out of whoever puts on that jersey, and we have a lot of talented guys here already. Here's to hoping our year plays out like aTm's season this year. Go VOLS.
Water is to ice as magma is to rock...

Who knows where the Sumlin talk would have been without Manziel. His team would certainly have lost more games this season.
Manziel talent cannot be coached, it's just there, and Sumlin is lucky to have him for a couple more years.

I really believe that Manziel is turning the A&M program around more so than Sumlin. It sure helps to have a Heisman winner on your resume while recruiting.....

No doubt Sumlin is a good coach that knows what he wants to get done.

Some things might be considered the same but not everything.

Sumlin has a good system in place and sticks to it...same for CBJ.

Both have good assistant coaches that know the systems and will get done what the HC wants them to accomplish.

Both are goal oriented and push the mental aspect to the players to change the mindset of the team.

Both have done well in their past HC stops.

Differences....

Sumlin walked into a program stockpiled with really good players including Johnny football...CBJ doesn't have a player roster even 1/2 as good as what aTm had to begin this season with.

aTm is in Texass which is a recruiting hotbed with some of the best players in the country in their frontyard so recruiting is much easier...CBJ has to work much harder and recruit nationwide to attempt to totally rebuild our player roster with the type of players CBJ needs for his systems.

I expect a 3 to 5 year slow crawl back up to the level we expect our Vols to be at but Sumlin walked into a team that was already built for him by the previous coaching staff.

VFL...GBO!!!

Y'all are delusional. Sumlin rebuilt Houston and nearly went undefeated with them. Plus, he's recruiting very well right now. Meanwhile, Butch just stole a Cincy recruit for the OL who looks like the Pillsbury Doughboy with braces. Wake up, guys.

This comes from a guy who's loves him Dooley. I like weisman and we need guards badly.

I was thinking the same thing last night. (I was also thinking why we didn't go after him instead of Dooley...) Sumlin did his thing in the Conference USA, winning the Coach of the Year award twice. Buuut...I don't think Sumlin has ever outright won a Conference championship?...I'm starting to think that Butch thing might just work after all!

Unfortunately one big difference will be the talent in the back yard. I live in Texas and believe me, Kevin Sumlin is about to tear it up in recruiting down here. He walks into a 5 star Texas HS player's living room and says, "You want to stay here in Texas and compete in the SEC or go play in that no defense conference?" And it is selling!
this is a point i brought up when TAM was introduced in the SEC when people were writing them off as another SEC door mat. im glad they are Bama and LSUs every year headache. this is more hope than opinion but Peterman may be the baller that puts Jones on the map. again thats more my hope.

You're user name does not lend credence to your opinion.
