Butch Jones = Kevin Sumlin ???

Unfortunately one big difference will be the talent in the back yard. I live in Texas and believe me, Kevin Sumlin is about to tear it up in recruiting down here. He walks into a 5 star Texas HS player's living room and says, "You want to stay here in Texas and compete in the SEC or go play in that no defense conference?" And it is selling!
Does that mean that Sumlin would have stolen Nick Stephens away from U.T. and convinced him to stay in Texas?

Y'all are delusional. Sumlin rebuilt Houston and nearly went undefeated with them. Plus, he's recruiting very well right now. Meanwhile, Butch just stole a Cincy recruit for the OL who looks like the Pillsbury Doughboy with braces. Wake up, guys.

Not true. Art Briles rebuilt the Houston program.

Butch had 3 10+ win years, including an 11 win year at Central Michigan. Comparable resume to Sumlin.

Yes, Sumlin had an undefeated regular season, but his conference made the Big East look like the NFC East.

CBJ had one 10 win season at Central Michigan.

If Dave Hart had any sense, and loved the university that is paying him over $750K annually, the Vols would now have a black coach - Charlie Strong! However, Hart is too tight to pay an SEC caliber coach SEC caliber $$$. Until we get rid of the BAMA, Gator, and other sewage and hire a UT-minded administration, we VFL will have to settle for much less than we really want.

Strong is the black coach you want? I'd take Franklin over him any day.

I have heard many many time that our players did not really care for Dooley. Have no idea whether this is true or not. However, if it is true, this alone could have had a big affect on our losing record. Personally, I see Jones as being more of a people person who the players will love and respect. If so, this alone will make a big difference. IMO

What are your thoughts on CBJ? I know you have pretty good knowledge of his offense, so just curious to your thoughts.

I'm excited about him. He brings great energy, and proven system.

I'm making no predictions, but I think he has a very good chance at turning things around.

Both from smaller/weaker conferences but have won wherever they have coached. Butch has won conference titles and has plenty of 10 win seasons, and Sumlin did pretty well against Conference USA opponents.

Sumlin's team was doubted at the beginning of the season just like Tennessee's team will be. I believe the difference will be coaching, and I'm glad we have Butch here. He gets the most out of whoever puts on that jersey, and we have a lot of talented guys here already. Here's to hoping our year plays out like aTm's season this year. Go VOLS.

How many are happy that Hamilton noticed that Sumlin didn't have very good orgainzational skills and hired Dooley instead?

I wonder what Hamilton thinks about how Dooley is doing as a coach vs. how Sumlin is doing as a coach.

I agree. It took a little while for me to warm up to him, but the more I read the more I like.

This staff minus 3 has been together 6 years. Fulmer's last year he brought in Clawson and screwed the offense. Kiffin brought in new staff and CDD brought in new staff and turned it over. There was no continuity within the staff's. CBJ can flat out sell and motivate. If he can recruit and I think he can I think that we can become the Orange Nation that we used to be.

TA&M did a great job by hiring Sumlin away from Houston, however, TA&M already had some good talent. Remember, this is Sumlin's first year at A&M, he didn't bring all that talent with him. Butch is inheriting much better talent than what Dooley inherited. Are we there yet? Probably not, however, I think Butch will get as much as anyone can out of whatever talent he has and his recruits. Just have to wait and see how the season goes. I hope the naysayers stay away this year.
