Butch Jones post game comments

Surely you don't expect us to read your reactions here and convince us you don't care.

Oh I care, bad wording on my part. I guess you could say I've come to expect losing and it really doesn't bother me any more. I used to schedule my weekends around UT football. I now watch the games if I don't have anything better to do. There was a time I had season tickets then I let them go. For a while I used to get tickets for 2-3 games and was excited when they came my way. This year is the first year I haven't attended a game in probably 10 years. I turned down tickets at least five times this year. I guess you can see a pattern develop here.

This is how many fans feel. It isn't just you..

How about the fake field goal on 4th and 19?

He said in the Butch Show that Vandy's defensive set on the previous FG attempt showed that it would be open and we needed 7 points. Guess nobody thought to call a TO when Vandy came out in a different set.

So losing 14-13 would have felt better?

Can't hang this game on Pig when its literally THE WORST game I have ever seen by a UT QB in 36 years. That being said...2 games this year Pig made a play that cost us the game. Sadly he is probably the most explosive player we have. The fumble across the goal line cost us the game though...and the completely unnecessary block in the back cost us this game. Both plays took 7 points off the board in games decided by less..can't argue with that. Freaking terrible.

You are right! Pig IS explosive!

Last time I checked, the program was in debt. We're talking millions of dollars. Where do you suggest we get that kind of money. It's easy to say just give the guys millions of dollars when you're not thinking about the budget

Does Obama have any stimulus money left?

Many fans do not feel like that. We can make it without the others. Bandwagon fans come and go.

I applaud you for your blind enthusiasm. I really do, no joking. But if you think that the UT fan base isn't dwindling at an alarming rate, well go to the mall. I am an old guy, long in the teeth if you will. Seeing oposing teams apparel was an anomaly. Now it's about as common as UT apparel (I'm talking about Knoxville btw). We are losing a whole generation of Vol fans. It's sad really. And what is really m Ind boggling to me is the level of Vol fans that seem to be ok with the level of play we are currently experiencing.

Now, before you or anyone throw out that I'm another delusional negavol with unrealistic expectations, I realize CBJ was dealt a difficult hand. I don't think he or even any of his staff should be fired. But, CBJ was an experiment. While his resume was decent, he is very inexperienced. He was a last min desperation hire from Hart.

I don't pretend to know the reason Hart made the hire. Maybe it's true and no one else would take the job. After Strong left us at the alter it appeared that Hart had a knee jerk reaction. Maybe he had exhausted all other avenues but CBJ was and continues to be an experiment.

Will all the components mesh in the test tube and the experiment be a success? Well we'll see in about three years. All we have now is to look at the pieces see if they seem to be coming together and for me I have my doubts that it's going to work. I hope I'm wrong though. Go Big Orange!

I haven't read all 10 pages of comments, but most of them. So far I haven't seen anyone comment on the wind problems at the game. One of Butch's post-game comments posted on Twitter by one our reporters (wish I could remember who) said that he chose the fake punt because the cross-winds were making punting very difficult, and that was a long one. That might explain not only Palardy's unusual night, but some of the passing difficulties, too. I remember one of the commentators observing after Vandy's missed FG that the ball looked great starting out and then suddenly dropped straight down in front of the uprights, and wondered if it was the wind. Anybody at the game want to comment on the conditions in there? Sounds like it may have played a big role.

Apparently you think Charlie Strong would have been the better choice. And you say Butch is inexperienced. Charlie Strong would have had 3 years as a head coach. How is that more experience than Butch?

One other thing. Butch Jones as HC at Cincinnati played Charlie Strong at Louisville 3 times. Guess what Butch won 2 and lost 1. The one loss was in overtime.

So really Butch is 2-0-1 against the experienced Charlie Strong.

I agree with you about Worley. When Worley got hurt UT's offense went down hill. A healthy Worley would have likely given UT a victory over Vandy. And I believe more competitive against Missouri and Auburn. As a matter of fact before Worley got hurt in the BAMA game he was moving the team on offense.

Remember back when the season started. The QB's were:
1 Worley
2 Peterman
3 Ferguson
4 Dobbs

Maybe there wasn't a big difference between them, but Dobbs was 4th string at the time.

Hey, all you Worley haters just stand up and cheer. You got Peterman first, then Dobbs and guess what all LOSSES!!

Please don't get me wrong this is not intended to dump on Peterman or Dobbs. Because if either one of them become #1 next year I will be pulling hard for either to be super successful!!

QB is the most important position on a football team. A successful starting QB usually makes the season successful. Look at the mighty Gators they can't even beat Georgia Southern in the SWAMP with their 3rd string QB.

That reminds me where are the GATOR contributors on VolNation now?

It was a faked field goal... The wind was bad but I don't think it affected the passing game. Dobbs was was very indecisive, and he lacks elite arm strength. Hopefully ferguson will be ready to go next season, and can take the job and run with it.

The university of Tennessee is down right now.. Everyone knows this, but that doesn't mean that any true fan will stop pulling for them. I don't call sticking with your team blind enthusiasm, I call it not being a bandwagon fan. That being said we don't know if butch jones can coach or not because we fielded one of the least talented teams in the history of tennessee football. He needs time to get some talent on the field, then we will see if he is the guy or not. He seems to be recruiting well so hopefully he can right the ship.
Go vols..

Any optimism at this point would be defined as blind. We have seen no absolutely no improvement in the team over the season. We have regressed in every area of football from on field performance to discipline to scheme. We have been out coached the last several games. Are we down on talent? Sure. To the level of beat downs we received? Not IMO. From a talent standpoint we should be at least on equal footing against Vandy yet they come into our house and whip us. Again, there is absolutely no evidence for any level of optimism except for Butch's recruiting which I give him an A+.

you guys are crazy. If you are optimistic the team will be good in 2 years, don't let one of these jackwagons tell you that you can't. That's not blind optimism. That's knowing anything can happen, especially when you have more talent on the field. Our team in 2-3 years will be the most talented team in a decade or so.

Nobody's telling anybody they can't be optimistic. I personally have seen nothing to be optimistic about. Did I expect them to be world beaters this year? No, absolutely not. I did expect the team to play much better than they did. The team undetachieved in my opinion. I don't think the staff got everything out of team 117. I've seen nothing but the recruiting class to get excited about.

I would have a great deal of respect and admiration for CBJ if he would have just said that the staff had a bad game and that they must do better in coaching all aspects of the game.
