As I said, flame on......Jones was a top target.
Gruden was never coming here and I never supported him coming here. Keep it up, I have a big red nose, a curly blue wig and oversized shoes ready for you.:spank:You need to keep on believing Gruden is coming. VN needs someone to laugh at.
You forgot OSU's Gundy. Jones was allowed to be seriously considered, offered, by both Purdue and Colorado and we never flinched. Why?If I remember correctly, Strong was the top candidate but politely declined. Butch was second according to what information was released. There was a "supposed" phone call to Gruden's agent but who knows or even cares at this point.
Volbraniac is just one of the many many trolls on this board. I kind of wish people would quit quoting him. I have him blocked and reading his stuff makes me feel slightly dirty.
I guarantee you one thing, there are only a handful of people that know EXACTLY what lead to Coach Jones' hiring, and it isn't ANYONE on VN. I would love to know for sure, but as of now, I just have to stand by what my buddy told me.
And you know this how? Have a friend that is a personal acquaintance of elder Mr. Haslam.
1. Gruden never a target....smokescreen.
2. Jones number one target.
3. Strong number two.
Flame away, I don't care. I believe him, you don't have too.
Anyone who thought Gruden was coming here is an idiot.Anyone who believes Jones was choice one is equally stupid. Numerous reports that contradict that theory. Strong was the first to get an offer. Others like Gundy were met with to gauge interest before we offered Strong

Because he was "down the list" and in the "down the list" group were several other coaches that Hart et al considered were nearly equal.
If anything, the fact that Jones had creamed himself when at Neyland [and who knows how many off record contacts he made to UT] may have shoved him into a first call when Gruden, Strong and Gundy ran away. Hart was in trouble, recruiting season was fading rapidly and he didn't want the embarrassment of being turned down four times whether that was in fact the reality or not. That's what was being reported.
So he picked on Jones probably figuring that at worst he could keep him a couple of years or so and dump him more or less what he did with Dooley.
Which, I still believe is his strategy here. My bet Jones is well aware of the short leash he has and one way to keep the wolves at bay is to go full tilt with the fanbase.
I think its more like the opposite of what you said. Hart Knows if Jones doesn't work out it will probably cost him his job.You forgot OSU's Gundy. Jones was allowed to be seriously considered, offered, by both Purdue and Colorado and we never flinched. Why?

BOOM!
I stand by my put that Jones AND Strong were at the top of the list with Jones one. Gundy was as real as Gruden.
That's ridiculous. Hart flew on a plane to Louisville for what? To tell Strong he was his number two choice? What about Gundy and his very public rejection. All before Hart offered Jones. And by the way anyone who has spent time around Hart can tell you what an ass he is.
