He’s yet another example of an incompetent ad giving a guy buyout money that wasn’t warranted. Like Pruitt...nobody was ever going to recruit him away from us. He was extended the year before he was fired after grossly underperforming. The fact that he would ultimately become an intern (after having been a head coach for 11 years) turning down opportunities to be an actual coach again just in an effort to stick it to tn is the most pathetic thing I’ve ever seen. He could’ve become the head coach at Maryland. So strange. He was still going to get the difference between the current salary and the buyout and could’ve been coach. Instead he was picking up another coaches dry cleaning and acting as though he was “winning” somehow. Tennessee football is a billion dollar entity. And it’s just that...an entity. A machine. There was nobody that suffered or was offended that he didn’t seek employment.

He is off in Feb of 21 anyway. Why you think he waited till he buyout was almost paid out to take a job?? He played the system. Which Pruitt will do the same thing if he is fired. He will take a low paying coaching position and Ut will be paying his salary to coach somewhere else.

He's the literal definition of what should be considered a 'mediocre' season at UT.

Jesus. Bowl games still count in season results 🙄 butch wasn’t the right answer but he won 9 games here twice.

Correct, he won 8 regular season games, and a post-season bowl game, twice.

He also peaked at 5 conference wins in a season as well.

It played out exactly like many thought it would. It’s not on Jones that he got the contract UT gave him. It was a good deal for him and he took it. I’m sure if you asked him, he’d rather still be the HC at Tennessee.

Why should he have rushed into a job when he didn’t have to? Maybe he thought his time as Saban’s valet was educational and would help him in his next gig.

I’m not going to dis a guy for playing the cards he was dealt.

If you can’t win an SEC title (much less an SEC East crown) with a roster including Josh Dobbs, Alvin Kamara, Derek Barnett, Josh Malone, Cam Sutton, Preston Williams, Jason Croom, Evan Berry, Jauan Jennings, and Reeves-Maybin... you kind of suck at your job.

I'm more upset with the UTAD for not putting stronger mitigating language in the agreement than I am with Butch taking advantage of the situation.

How many of you wouldn't want to stick it to an employer that just fired you? I was never a Jones fan, don't wish anything bad for him, but the UT job was too big for him.

2021: Washington
2022: Ohio State
2024: Iowa State, Michigan
2025: Texas A&M, Iowa State

If you want to be mad about Jones getting his buyout money, be mad at the AD and the administration that signed a contract that gave him that ridiculous amount.

If I sign a contract with someone saying they're gonna pay me, you can bet your sweet ass I'll let them. Go intern under the best to ever do it and get my check? Hell yeah, of course. It's a no brainer. Haters can hate. I'd laugh to the bank.

It won't matter with Pruitt. He gets all of his guaranteed money no matter what he is getting paid by someone else.
