Butch Jones "Vows to bring the Vols back"

As they say, all good Texans came from Tennessee. I assume the UT diploma is from Tennessee; not Texas. However, if you are so proud of Tennessee, why no try taking a positive attitude about the football program rather than the negative stuff. I don't put anyone on ignore. I just wish our fans would give our coaches a year or two before they throw them under the bus. It seems that many of the non-supporters are fans who jump off the train when we face hard times. In my 74 years, I have seen the best of times and the worst of times and I still support our athletic programs because I love my school and will continue to defend them. Success in life depends on many things and one of the most important is a positive attitude. Some of the posters appear to emphasize the negative rather the positive experienced. I wish those people could experience the rush of positive vs negative.

Hear hear gramps. The negaturds act gets old quick.

He has proven it on the field.

:nono:
When he actually did play against SEC he got rolled over (remember Dooley?). And since you think Dooley was a terrible coach how exactly does that prove his system works? You are probably going to answer that he had inferior bearcat talent. Ok - but then why should we have confidence that he will be able to "coach up" the 10th ranked SEC class he just recruited and beat Bama/UGA/UF/LSU etc with that inferior talent? Where in his background can we find some evidence that he can actually win with inferior talent?

U have got to be kidding me?!?! I was one of few trying to get people to be positive this past season and now you are going to tell me to positive?? Give me a break. Like I said before if you understood what I was saying you'd know my gripe is with the fans that get overly optimistic about a $3mil/yr coach telling us he vows he's going to bring us back. Seriously what is he going to say??? At the end of the day I have nothing against CBJ. I pray to God he does well. IMHO he didn't pass his first test though..recruiting. That would have gotten it done not just saying it. This fanbase will bring him down just as fast as they did Dooley cause they can't comprehend that it takes time.

Fans negativity brought this season down because so many thought Gruden was coming. I was called so many things when I was trying to get people to support the team this yr. so don't give me this garbage. Grudenites are to blame for being played so hard by Gruden they were hoping for losses so to guarentee Dooley getting fired. And I'm a bad fan???

I don't know if you were one of them Grudenites, someone confirm if they know, but don't want to hear it from you. Cause one thing I do know is that you weren't trying to get people to be positive this past season. I know that as a fact. Because if you were you'd be on my friend list. Cause majority of them were people trying to get people to be positive this past season. They were the ones that were vocal about it and stuck to thier guns, and I reached out to them to be friends on here because of it. I'm sure I missed a couple but I know you aren't one of them.

I don't want to read through all of these other posts, but I do not remember Dooley ever saying that he would have us back on top, and especially not sooner rather than later. All I remember him ever saying was how long it was going to take, and watering tha bamboo, blah, blah, blah. He never instilled the championship attitude into the guys, or said anything to encourage, or make them feel like they could compete with the best.

I was 17 once.

Seriously if you don't comprehend what I'm trying to say just ask and I'll try to dumb it down for you further. No need for stupid comical comments trying to mask your inability to understand.

Either respond with a civil response to start a dialogue whether or not we agree or just don't respond at all. Thx.

I disagree, there are plenty of recruiting stories that have come out against dooley. Also the same mistakes were being made with substitutions and time management. New coaches in third year and several of the key players being juniors can be attributed to the improvement. Dooley was in way over his head and there is no history to say otherwise. Butch has a history of winning seasons, dooley had one i believe. Im surprised there are a few dooley supporters left.

Just like there r some bad stories there are some good ones too. Y'all don't like to admit that when bashing the guy. So there are a small number of coaches that didn't like being overlooked, but honestly Dooley needed to focus on better talented areas. Dooley brought with him the GA connections and he was working them from day 1. CBJ didn't bring any connections so he spent his 2months trying to fluff the egos of coaches in the least talented state in the conference. I know I know it's the state school, but let's be honestly we aren't coming back on the back of TN talent.

Just like y'all like to bring up all the negatives...how about some positives...Mz Terry, Crooms mother loved her some Dooley. I'll take a current players mother over a handful of jaded coaches with their own ego issues. A fact of life is that not everyone is going to like everyone they come across. It's like using Pope as an example of how Dooley treated players in a negative way, but not using a counter of what Daniel Hood would say about him. Everyone wants to push their negative agenda against the guy, and it's not fair IMO. So yes I think we were stupid for firing him and not giving him enough time. If you think that's stupid or not frankly I don't care. I'm a grown man with my own opinion. You your own.

I also love seeing how people act like Dooley is the only coach in history to have clock mgmt issues or have 13 men on the field. So many throw out there that he inherited a top 10 class without adding that in his second yr he had few left from that "great" class. They forget to take out Nukeese Richardson and how he would affect the ranking, and he was kicked off before dooley arrived. So many blame Dooley for losing them but don't see how so many of them were prima-donnas. Not a single person on here can say that Janzen Jackson didn't have to leave. Dooley tried his best I'm sure to cover his issues just to keep him, but the kid just wouldn't help Dooley help him. Let's not forget how he was kicked off the team in fall camp which isn't the best timing to lose the best D player. Then lose one of the best O players 3 games in.

Dooley had a lot to deal with when he got on campus his first yr from...dealing with bldg the new athletic facility, an AD in shambles and going broke, Hamilton on his last breath as AD, athletes that r on thier 3rd coach in 3yrs and just crapped on by Kiffin, dealing with a class full of prima donnas, and the list can go on and on. So it's been said (per Deerpark iirc) that the coaches would be pissed after games because bray wouldn't do what they wanted him to do...how do you think that affects game mgmt?? But of course it's all Dooley's fault. Nothing to do with Bray doing what he would do. Maybe Dooley should have put in one of the other QBs he was left from that Top 10 class he inherited...oh wait...:ermm:

I really just can't understand how people can see all the issues going on when he arrived, and have a hard time understanding that it just can't be fixed In 3 yrs. Also not understanding how they need to be fixed before good consistent preformance on the field. Just like any other business.

I hate that I have to still come on here and try to defend Dooley, but if this fanbases doesn't learn from how bad it handled the Dooley era it will continue to drag the program down. This fanbase needs to understand that its not just Xs and Os, wins/losses, but that there are many other factors involved. Those behind the scene factors are not in good shape. They finally came to light and the program has fallen.

Side note: To yall that don't like what I say, can't understand me, or whatever else put me on ignore or just don't respond with stupid comments. Doesn't make you look smart when you do that. I'm all about having a civil dialogue but don't waste my or your time with stupid comments that clearly show your lack of understanding. I want UT back on top just as much as any other fan. I have my opinions on its issues and what it takes to correct them. If you don't agree...fine, but dont act like you are smarter or better than me by trying to put me down, because i promise you are neither. I'm glad to hear other opinions, discussing them and adjusting mine accordingly if I feel it needs to be. Just don't think you are going to tell me I'm stupid, and that's going to change my opinion. :hi:

this doesn't have anything to do with dooley's poor recruiting and bad coaching during games.

When dealing with a coach who makes over 3 million a year certain things should be expected.

Step 1 - Win over fans and get the fanbase energized

Step 2 - Win the recruiting war

Step 3 - Win on the field

We have a long way to go before we know what kind of hire we have.
