when jones starts beating saban, richt and muschamp, I'll believe
Listen to Coach Jones:
Its our goal to give everyone the kind of football program that you can be extremely, extremely proud of. And to continue to build upon the legacy and the proud tradition that the University of Tennessee has been so proud of throughout the years. To our great and passionate fan base, and everyone here that loves this program, well be working to be champions each and every day."
That's sounds great and hope it happens. I'm sure UTs PR dept worked hard and long to get the wording just right but am I missing why now we should all think CBJ is the guy to bring us back. Let's not forget that we currently have a president that speaks very well, and gives his minions the moon and the stars in his speeches. Yet hasn't done jack to improve the economy or anything else. Don't get upset at us that read through the bs and are tired of it. We need results. I liked Dooley cause he told me as a fan what was wrong and told me how he was going to fix it. CBJs reheroic sounds good to the simple minded, but to the ones that know the truth it's difficult to swallow. Mainly because I don't know if he truly knows the issues he faces, and if he is able to fix them. With Dooley I had that confidence.
Honestly I'm confused why you felt this was an appropriate response to that other post...

Our fans (and most other's in places with strong football tradtion like ours) don't understand this. One or two so-so years (6-7 wins) and they will be sick of this vision and want another one. That's why it was critical for recruits to immediately buy into his vision this year (that's what bought Dooley his 3rd year - people were reluctantly willing to wait and see how Hunter, Bray, and o-line, etc perform after they get some experience). In my opinion Butch missed that opportunity this year and if he does not overachieve in W-L column overwhelming majority of our fans will run him out of town no later then end of his second year. I do not wish this to happen but that sounds most likely to me (unless he overachievs and wins 8-9 games/year).
I couldn't agree with u more Volly. So my problem is that at the time Dooley came in we needed the type of person he is and why I don't think he was given enough time. Honestly though I don't know if the AD and football program is repaired and needs the type of coach CBJ is. If I felt like it was then I wouldn't have an issue so much with putting "some" blind faith in him. I just honestly don't think the basic foundation is solid yet.
I've said this before but I'd don't just look at the situation at UT from the eyes of a fan or alum, but from a professional view as well. Imho the program and AD are not on solid ground. Don't know when it will be but my want for dooley to stay wasn't because I had a crush on his hair but because imho he was the best combo of biz rebuilding smarts and coach. Not many out there with that combo. We need to remember cfb is a biz not just football.
You are not going to have Tennessee to kick around anymore
I think we should hire coaches and evaluate them before they coach a game. That way,you can gripe about all our athletic programs every day of every year. Go back to your favorite teams and help them rather than Tennessee.
I disagree, there are plenty of recruiting stories that have come out against dooley. Also the same mistakes were being made with substitutions and time management. New coaches in third year and several of the key players being juniors can be attributed to the improvement. Dooley was in way over his head and there is no history to say otherwise. Butch has a history of winning seasons, dooley had one i believe. Im surprised there are a few dooley supporters left.I've said it for a while that IMHO the situation from top to bottom when Dooley came in was so bad we couldn't look at only the win/loss record. That's bottom line thinking that the situation did not afford him. Lots of little things and areas getting fixed step by step is what I saw. I saw a team that got spanked in the 2nd half in yr 2. And then saw a team fighting to the end vs key rivals this past yr. yes they lost but fight was there. Difference. Yr 2 had bad run and OL play. Yr 3 had one of the best o-lines in the country. At one pt we had the top run game in the sec until Neal got hurt. Improvement.
To me there were soooo many parts that were messed up and just can't be all fixed at once. Especially in a highly regulated industry. Dooley came in and laid it out and did it step by step. He was doing it (behind the scene stuff) well IMO until he was thrown under the bus by not being supported by hart when all the Gruden crap started up. Fans need to look in the mirror to see who is to blame for a major part of this past seasons debacle.
This is absolutely right. An elite coach would have landed some of that elite talent in 30 days - especially in our positions of need. Has happened with all the major new SEC hires. I like CBJ, he is a major upgrade, and he has a lot more upside than Doolander.
But he has to overachieve now for the reasons stated above. He's got to be a +2 coach in a league where tier two is Steve Spurrier at USCe.
I know u been on here a minute so I'm sure u experienced all the griping while dooley was here. It doesn't compare with what I say. If u could comprehend my POV, instead of trying to tell me to find a new team cause u r unable to create an actual argument to counter mine, u would see that my gripe is with the fan base more than the coaches.
Finally...u want me to change my favorite team?!?!? Are u the one that is going to come to my house and into my office to remove my UT diploma?!? Just making sure to expect you. Btw - I live in TX. Don't ever tell anyone to change their favorite team. I've gotten in it with many and I've never said that once. Its a pet peeve when I see it done cause it shows ignorance and inability to actually have a conversation. Its not ur place to do it. So bite me and put me on ignore. Ok??
