Butch Jones vs. Jon Gruden

Biggest difference?? Gruden is garbage and failed miserably at his last job. Butch.....didn't. I still hear the Hallelujah Chorus every time I sit and think "Jon Gruden's NOT the head coach at Tennessee".

It amazes me by the OP getting bashed because he's bragging on our current head coach. God forbid someone share their opinion on a message board....

People are a$$holes, whatever.

I'm just confused by most people telling me to forget about Gruden. Did you even read what I posted? I'm full Butch, ya'll are dumb.

The real question is:

Should we stick with Majors??? That Fulmer guy calls a hell of a ball game!

That question is about as valid as this thread.

Can we stop with the Gruden crap? Butch is our coach, not him. Butch is doing a fantastic job so far and Gruden was never even close to being our coach.

I'll admit, I was wanting Gruden too, but after I have seen what Butch is doing and how he is doing it, I am fully on board and happy with Butch Jones. I have a feeling that we may have lucked out and found a coach that truly wants to be here and for a long time. I also firmly believe that he will get us back on track and will produce some memorable and quality wins.

I truly believe we are better off going forward with butch than gruden. Butch hasn't really made a name for himself yet and views this as his opportunity to creat a legacy for himself. Look at they way he's hit the ground running! Gruden already has a legacy of success. There's no way over the long haul that he'd be as dedicated and motivated as jones

Short-term: gruden>jones
Long-term: gruden<jones

Gru would have been better for this year's class, but hard to imagine he could top what Jones has for 2014. Seems like Jones sure is excited about us. All Jonny Boy loves is himself. He is garbage and no longer welcome in our state.

True about gruden not being welcome (at least in my opinion as well). The fact that he let his agent trash us after obviously taking the job into serious consideration is pathetic. He made some enemies.

Two of the main reasons we wanted Gruden was that he had the potential to bring in a top recruiting class, and that he would generate national excitement for the Vols again...

Butch gets it. I know we have a season left to play and its months before national signing day, but he's the third most followed coach in the nation on twitter, 3rd on rivals in recruiting, and is getting mentioned in a ton of lists as one of the most exciting up-and-coming coaches. Up to this point in his career as UT HC, I think there is nothing that Jon Gruden would have accomplished that CBJ hasn't already done. Just my 2 cents. GBO.

Wait....shouldn't he coach a few SEC games first? :ermm:

Too bad, that we can't win a national championship based only on the coaches twitter followings.

It will be years before we will know who Butch Jones truly is. This season, we are weak on depth, weak on experienced receivers, weak on experienced q.b.'s, weak in the secondary and strong on the schedule. So, I don't expect much from this season. However; should we somehow win a game that we are not favored to win, excluding Vanderbilt, then I will start to get excited.

In 2014, we will be lacking experience at the linebacker position, the defensive front and the offensive line. We will only have one truly awesome tailback, that being Hurd, due to Neal leaving. So, we won't have depth at tailback.

In 2015, we should begin to expect winning seasons. Maybe 8 wins or a 9th win to include a bowl win.

So, all of the excitement about Butch Jones is good, but most of us were excited about Lane Kiffin the first few months that he was on campus also. Remember the all-star coaching staff and the best defensive co ordinator in the history of the NFL???

I am glad that Dooley is no longer the coach and I am excited that Hamilton is no longer the A.D., so we seem to be headed in the right direction. I will hold my excitement until I see results on the field.

Also, each off season, I will be nervous that Brian Kelly may take a job somewhere other than Notre Dame and that Butch Jones will once again follow as Brian Kelly's replacement and leave the U.T. program.....

So bc Butch followed him at Central and Cinci you worry he would follow him at ND...to be honest that makes no sense. I dont think Butch is going around making his career decisions based on whether or not Kelly worked somewhere first

Furthermore, Butch has no ties, either as a player or assistant coach, to other major powers, unlike Kiffin with his prior history at USC. This is Butch's chance to make a big splash and it looks like he is embracing it with every fiber of his being.
