He should be. But I don't feel bad for him. I feel bad for the fans. We don't get 3 million dollars for losing to the rest of the SEC.

I will give you an A+ for consistency. When it comes to Tennessee football, have you ever had a single positive thought that erroneously oozed from the recesses of your cranium?

Didn't see it but if he is down then that can be a good thing. Butch is nothing if not a type-A personality. The man lives to win and falling short of his own goals and expectations will only motivate him to work harder. It's obvious he wants to prove himself in this conference both by recruiting and putting a winning team on the field and he's obviously willing to put in the work -- that desire and work ethic is a huge part of the formula it takes to win.

Guys like Saban and Miles may make it look easy even though they don't betray the fire inside them but I guarantee you they have those same qualities when it comes to hard work and an overwhelming desire for excellence. That doesn't mean Butch is or will be on their level (we don't know) but he has those very necessary intangibles, so to speak that may just take him and us there.

He was just on ESPNU and looked really down. I think he is upset with the signing class outcome. I believe the guy worked his ass off to sign us a great class and got shafted by several recruits. Feel bad for him but he needs to go to work and win some ball games this year before the recruits start rolling in...keep your head up coach!

I think it was a shock to lose Bell, plus he's been putting in a lot of hours trying to fix a lot of different things Dools left undone.

Feel bad for the guy and his staff. They really worked their booties off the last month and not a ton to show for it. Think Bell may have played them a little cause I'm pretty sure the coaching staff thought he was coming.

Pretty sure Bell played them alot.

If you know what the team needed, what we got, and how we got it.. You wouldn't be that disappointed. Yeah, missing out on Bell, Lawson, Ford, and Bellamy was awful. The only position IMO that we REALLY needed and didn't get for next year would be Bell at Safety. I am impressed and proud about how CBJ's staff has recruited and performed the past month and that we were lucky to be the runner-up in some of these cases. If you all don't understand that, that's insane. We were ahead of Oregon for Bellamy. Ahead of Alabama for Bell. Ahead of Florida State for Lawson. They did pretty damn good. We also got 3(Dobbs, Brown, Miller) players today that were surprises.. all rivals 3*s. And Jabo Lee as well. I'm not thrilled with today, but I'm happy where we are going.

Can we please stop talking about Bell.He wasn't a Vol for Life.

And I'd guess he probably wasn't much more than a casual a fan either but because of where he lived he knew it was only right to show the Vols some respect.

I said I thought Butch Jones was a winner the day they hired him. I haven't had my head buried in the sand. I was concerned about the staff he hired, but I've said repeatedly that I thought he would get the job done here. That changed today. I don't believe he will ever win a championship here. He hasn't shown me that he's capable of anything special, while coaches like Freeze, Sumlin, Franklin, etc. are improving their programs by leaps and bounds. Not to mention programs like Florida and Alabama who put more distance between themselves and us with every signing day.

I don't think Jones realized what he needed to do to recruit successfully in the SEC. He brought his coaches from cincy, believing that his one or two good recruiters, Thigpen and Graham, could carry the load. He now sees that his best recruiters are akin to the fourth and fifth starters on a baseball team. We need an ace or two to overcome our natural recruiting difficulties.

He had 31 days to recruit, what are you talking about!!!

He's been on the job for a month dude! Seriously, chill out man...our program has been crap lately. He needs to prove that he can win some ball games before the recruits start listening.

Time to focus on who we got, not who we didn't
Coaches get paid to coach, so now they can do thier job

I AM really trying to be positive about Coach Jones cause I think he may be the one to lead us out of this seemingly endless hell visited upon us by MH, LK, DD and the other anti-christs.. That said, wtf, how does Vandy , with their lofty academic standards, and their history of losing for generations, out recruit the Vols ( a top ten program x 100 years) . How exactly can that happen ? Ole Miss is buying players ( I cant prove that) and I get that part. Please explain the Vandy thing..

Take Grahm & Thig away and You have an average Cincy recruiting class! lol That should tell you alot!

The only one we really lost today is Bell that we really thought we had so if he had choose us this board would not be as down today, what we need is LINEBACKERS.:ermm:

True, but what a lot of people fail to realize is that we never actually "had" Bell to begin with. He never committed anywhere until he sent in his LOI. People hung their hats on all the "insider" info claiming he was a lock. It just proves that until the ink is dry, nothing is final, and if you believe otherwise as law, you're setting yourself up for an epic letdown (and meltdown, as so many of our fan base has so wonderfully and childishly exhibited for us today).

^this. We should have no sympathy. He just didn't get the job done this time. I think he'll do better with the Class of 2014.

Hard to judge a guy who hasn't even coached a game in the sec. You don't even know if he's going to be good or bad yet. One dumbass in state 5 star recruit said no because of his "head" and you've already jumped off the ledge. Did you really expect us to catch up with Bama and FL after being on the job less than 2months?? If so then Your expectations were unrealistic for the first yr on the job if you did.

If Jones is going to be great, and build a great program, he's going to have to do it with a shoestring budget compared to our conference rivals. That's the reality -- we're a sales tax only state and revenues are down across the board so there's no white knight coming to the rescue as can happen with other state universities which is why Haslam said what he said. It's do or die time.

It's been done before with far more disadvantages and far less money but it ain't easy and he's going to have to work about a 10 times harder than our rivals.
