Butch's Escort

What does their pay level have to do with them getting paid to perform a job way outside of their responsibility. Their amount of pay has nothing to do with the fact they shouldn't be used for stupid stuff like that.

If they were on duty and a real emergency happened, then the force would be one man down.

I have nothing against policeman and totally agree they are underpaid. But we should not be paying them to go recruiting.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!! Quess what? Ah never mind this is too much fun!!!!

The troopers and Knoxville pd guys who do the games and escort details are paid by the university. Even if they were on the taxpayers dime id say helping our ball coach land a too recruit is money well spent considering what other things tax dollars are spent on.

You might agree, but fans of MTSU and vandy probably wouldn't like their money spent to support UT football.

That said, I'm pretty sure any organization that utilizes public services for non emergency purposes is paying the municipality for the costs.

I'm sure that was exciting for the recruit, but let's be honest, that is ridiculous. Especially if the officer wasn't volunteering his time to do it (i.e., our tax dollars paid for it).

Ridiculous, silly, adolescent, cheesy, and consistent with many of the tools in the Butch Jones skill set...also in fairness he appears to know what his audience wants and what appeals to 18 year old kids in tight and shinny pants AND the zealots who stalk them....

I know Butch gets it, and I know he is the son of a police officer. However, I am curious how and why does our coach get a police escort to visit a recruit's home? I love it, but I am just curious how this comes about....I've never heard of such awesomeness.

P.S. I wonder if Captain Butch just borrowed some police cars, and the staff dressed up like police officers and barged in Malone's home screaming, "We've found the BIG BRICK!!!!"

Sorry, I'm just excited!:)
crap!!!!!! I thought this was gonna be a picture butch's ford escort. I was gonna say somebody gotta hook him up with a new ride..

Let's be really honest Einstein and understand taxpayer investment in generating millions upon millions of dollars for the University and taxpayer revenue spent by those that attend games and boost the local economy by spending on hotels, food, etc...by having a winning team...It's called ROI...figure the rest out on your own. Think man! Good God...Does anybody understand what they should have learned in 9th grade?

Well stated. This should end this silly non-issue.

Take it from someone who routinely hires police escorts, they ain't cheap. They are scheduled in advance so municipalities have plenty of law enforcement on hand. In this case I'm sure it was paid for by recruiting budget dollars and thus not tax payers monies.

True.

It was awhile ago but back in 98 we hired an off duty officer for security purposes....even drove me to the bank to make deposits. I remember we we're giving him $500 a day to hang out with us.

Not bad to take a couple of weeks off and pocket 7 G's.

So let me get this straight - you are stating that by sending a police officer with Butch on a recruiting trip is going to significantly impact the bottom line. Ha. In the grand scheme of things, do you really think that one factor will sway a recruits decision on where to attend thereby creating a better football team thereby creating more victories thereby increasing UT's income? NOPE, it will not mean squat in the grand scheme of things. That is a huge stretch Einstein.

Now, having said that, as I stated previously I have no issue if the University paid for it. It's cool and makes Butch look very important and that's about it. My only issue was if UT didn't pay for it as I think that is a misuse of their time.

I don't think the dressing as cops and barging in would sit well with Malone and family. Given the distrust African-Americans have regarding cops, this wouldn't be funny. What it would do is piss them off and they'd bolt for Bama or OSU, maybe even TAMU.
