Bye, bye, Rich Rod

Saban left Miami ahead of a lynch mob. Harbaugh doesn't have that problem. Anyone who chooses to deal with recruiting, academics, pinhead boosters, and the whims of 19-23 year olds instead of coaching at football's highest level needs psychiatric help.

And a good diet plan. See Charlie Weis

If the NFL is that much better, why wouldn't Saban have waited another year and see if he could do improve things? Even if he gets fired, he still would have gotten a great job when he made his way back to the college game. Different sport, but are Tom Izzo and Coach K stupid for turning down NBA jobs when they had the opportunity?

Agree. I think you need psychiatric help if you want to coach in the NBA.

They must have needed shrinks.

but even more realistically, what big job lately has landed their "realistic" #1 target?
Not really sure. To be honest, we hear so many different things as soon as a job comes open, it's hard to always tell who is really the number one target.

He was smart enough to see what his decision to take Dante Culpepper over Drew Brees had wrought in Miami. It wasn't going to get better any time soon.

Vandy had their "real target" in Malzahn but settled for Franklin...I will always think they should have gone all out for a bigger name but they are Vandy after all...:whistling:

Izzo, yes. K essentially has an NBA job. He lets the assistants handle most of the recruiting, the schools standards take care of the academics, Duke lets him take off to coach Team USA and allows him to make a mint from outside sources. All he'd really get from the NBA is an extra 60 or so games a year.

one thing to add here about Michigan, I think its a great job - one of the best. But the last big-time job that opened where the school made a huge splash with the hire was Bama with Nick Saban. There is a some strange trend where good jobs are having a hard time finding someone to take it.

Penn,

Excellent point. I think guys may be catching on to the fact that $2 million is better than $4 million if the stress is much less. It's easy for us to say we would keep the $2 million job, but if you are actually offered that and you are competitive; hard to turn down. So, after years of seeing guys fall on their faces when they chase the money, some have seen the wisdom in staying where they are at. See GP at TCU, Boise coach, and to a lesser extent, stoops at OU, although his pay is good.

I'd assume they're waiting to tell the players.

It's sounding like my scenario is more probable at this point. ESPN is now reporting that Rich Rodriguez met with their AD for several hours today (ESPN's comment was that meetings to fire a coach usually last a few minutes) and that the AD is meeting again with Rich Rodriguez tomorrow. The players meeting that was rumored to be today is going to be tomorrow as well. The ESPN analyst said that it's possible that Michigan has discovered that they can't get Harbaugh and they now may be scrambling to see if they can get somebody else, or they'll likely be stuck with Rodriguez.

LOL sucks for Michigan, I think if Harbaugh leaves it will be to an NFL team.

I would be happy if Harbaugh was hired by the Titans but it looks like Fisher will be back again.

I have confirmed that Rich Rodriguez will remain as head football coach for the Michigan Wolverines.
