Bye weeks cause trouble!

I'm not a Chesney fan, but that song would 100% be my choice.

They used to play this almost every game in Neyland years ago. I believe in the later Fulmer days and maybe even through early Dooley. Don't recall when in the game or if it was consistently at the same relative time, to be candid.

I, along with a lot of others, would like for it to change and have for some time. While I love the song, itself, I don’t think it exactly gets players or fans excited, locked in, or focused. Frankly, it kinda kills the mood going into the most crucial and final quarter.

Some people liken it to UF's playing of Tom Petty's "Won't Back Down". As much as I can't listen to Petty for weeks after the game in the Swamp every year, it actually makes sense why they do it and it fits the moment. Tom Petty is from Gainesville and was a UF fan. The theme and title of the song are about not backing down; i.e. applicable to the moment. Garth Brooks has zero connection to Knoxville or UT. The "tradition" started because he played a concert in Knoxville. He played 29 other stadiums on that tour. Further, the song itself is not applicable to the moment at all. Again, love the song, but reminiscing and singing about Friends in Low Places going into the Fourth Quarter... misses the mark, in my book.

That said, I do join in singing and will continue to do so as long as it continues, as I’m not one to thumb my nose solely to thumb my nose.

Go Big Orange!
I went to the UTSA game, and people really seemed to enjoy it. I also went to the opening game at Michigan last year, and their big tradition is for everyone to sing Brightside by the Killers. Is this song any better??

And I'm not even referring to our players. There is a ridiculous argument among #VolTwitter about changing the song between the 3rd and 4th quarter of a game from "Low Places" to about a million other options. I've never seen people get so upset over a song that is played 7 times a year. I mean seriously people.....find ANYTHING else to do with your time.
Excellent point..The Highway to hell song I heard in Neyland last Sat was a much bigger problem. Dump it

I don't disagree that people enjoy it from a participation standpoint at all. The participation numbers speak for themself. I think there's a much better use of that collective energy.

While I think Mr. Brightside isn't the best (not to say I know what is to be honest), I do think it's higher energy than Friends in Low Places would translate better.

Personally, I think the two keys are: (1) mass crowd participation; and (2) high energy. Friends in Low Places has the first, absolutely. But its energy doesn't exactly leave the crowd foaming or roaring at the end lol.

Just play this! It would be unreal with 100k. Very catchy, easy to sing like a Sweet Caroline. Goes right into the chorus. Little sad though if we were losing. LOL

I like Milsap, but that is too melancholy. Like I said Get Back, Get Back, Get back to where you once belonged. (or where you azz belongs)

Why does it have to be 1 song?

That’s the problem with just 1 song. People get tired of hearing the same thing.

There are several great songs already mentioned ITT.

Start a new tradition and play a different sing along song every week.
Be original and quit running songs into the ground for the sake of a sing along.

Never heard a song by The Killers that I liked, so I would guess no.

I've got no problem with Low Places but with the big Jumbotrons and some good camera work hitting the crowd, something like Martina McBride's "This one's for the girls" could spotlight the pretty ladies of all ages in Neyland.

Who doesn't get excited seeing pretty women dancing around mostly in orange?

Everytime I hear that I cough up a little bile remebering Lyle Jones and that era of ineptitude.

While we're at it, can we get rid of the PA Announcer "It's 3rd down"...it's pretty bad when you can hear over the TV broadcast.
i cannot stand hearing the third down call .... ring the bell? that's fine. that's enough.

I personally don't like the song or the one who sings it. I just endure the moment.

If we are winning and on our way to victory .... then there are better songs like "Another one Bites the Dust" or "We are the Champions".

4th quarter of ANY game within 10 points is too close to play either of these
