'19 CA ATH/WR Horace "Bru" McCoy (Tennessee commit)

Apples and oranges now with NIL, but comparing to Heup's first class...yeah he had some success. I'd say at least. Heup's recruiting was underwhelming until recent.

I know some of the players suck, now, but when we landed JJ Peterson people thought he was the next Ray Lewis or something.
eh. in a results oriented business, i think it's fair to say that Pruitt's recruiting wound up being the biggest problem the program had during his short tenure.

what's going on now feels/looks completely different, for a variety of reasons, and Heupel may be the guy that's at the right place at the right time, but it will still be a year or two down the road until we "know".

we "know" about Pruitt at this point.

and if you can look at what pruitt did year 2/3 and still remember being excited about his recruiting, then i can't see how you wouldn't be uber excited about what's going on right now?

Money definitely talks but what about after that? I think that’s where culture comes in.

Or it could be more money…who knows?

Idk...our best players flew the coop the day their payments stopped. I think Heupel is a likable guy and we "have a good culture" but I think top players are looking for $. There are some kids that bleed orange but the top players typically are going to the top pay. I can't see why they wouldn't either.

I’m not trying to rain on the parade here… but what’s the reality Bru plays at a high level all season? Guy went to USC, transferred to Texas after Kingsbury left, then a few months later transferred back to USC. Kind of got in trouble (sounded like a BS allegation) and now he’s with us after taking some limited snaps on a bad USC team.

Don’t get me wrong physically and athletically he’s a beast but should we be this hyped? I was happy with our returning WR corp and incoming freshmen as is.

I really was not excited about much with Pruitt after Florida year 1 minus that small win streak. He didn't try. Been excited about Heupel bc we're throwing the ball up against Alabama when we really have no shot vs just rolling over the 3rd quarter. Insert Herm Edwards quote. It's much more fun to make the other team work for a W. I am excited about the recruiting and Heup right now. We're fortunate to be one of the new ~25 give-or-take teams that are going to run college football due to the NIL. Defense is concerning but with better talent there over time and our offense being an absolute Juggernaut I think we'll be a force.

Pretty real.

I see your point but one could say the same thing about Jennings. Nothing at this point suggests he won’t be a very good contributor

I would counter that by saying we knew Jennings was a great contributor already despite having a terrible QB. Bru has none of the performance to compare to a situation like Jennings. Granted Bru was playing for Helton who is a dumpster fire of a HC, but still I feel like tempering expectations would be best here. Our WR are stacked regardless and if he breaks out then great. If he’s a nothing burger then oh well.

Even if he’s just depth, and I suspect he’ll contribute fairly quickly, this is big.

The connection to all these receivers is making me worry a little bit about Tillman, but who knows

Yeah, he has only played 6 games since he came to the college ranks. So a small sample size for those who are "underrating" him. I think this guy is a huge get and an immediate impact player. Will have one of, if not the best, receiving cores in the country. The guy is pretty dang big for a receiver. Gonna be a BRUiser!!! Can't wait to watch this year's team play!! GBO!!! 2022-23 SEC & National Champions!!

The running joke for months has been whether Tillman would come back this year (despite him tweeting that he would).
Oh ok!! That's a big relief!! I know the draft is over but I thought maybe I missed something about transferring or something ridiculous like that. But thanks for the info and keeping me up to date on the forum. 🤜🤛

That "bad USC team" finished 5-1 in a shortened season in 2020, and he played behind 2 NFL WRs (Amon-Ra St. Brown and Drake London) and a senior (Tyler Vaughns) who had career totals of 222 recs, 2800 yds and 20 TDs at USC, and McCoy still finished with 21 recs for 236 yds and 2 TDs after sitting out a year with a serious illness.

He may not come in here and light the world on fire, but if he can compete for our WR3 spot, at worst, then he's doing enough.

Ok. Thanks dude. Just withdrew my grandson’s college fund and was going to place it all on Bru being a first rounder…close one! Tempering any level of excitement I hastily generated at possibilities. 😞

Are asking for an answer, or confirmation of all the things you listed and everyone in the thread already knows?

(1) Seems people "in the know" have given reasons to expect a big year.

(2) There are never guarantees, so I don't personally see a reason for hand-wringing considering his attributes.

(3) I wouldn't expect anyone here to offer more than what's already out there to change your mind if you're questioning the "take" here.

All that just to say, "We'll see."

Feel free to temper your expectation.

Considering the last two seasons, I don't personally see any danger in being excited that he's coming, and the potential he brings.

SMH

I just don't understand the Excitement PD beat cops patrolling the RECRUITING forum.

Kid hasn't even gotten a chance to play a full season yet, has all the measurables and some great on field production... Now he's here in this offense under Heup, for THREE YEARS... Yeah, he's gonna do some great things for us... You put him and Tillman out there with one of our speedsters in the slot and we will create all kinds of issues for SEC defenses to deal with... then Hooker or one of our RB's will run it... Weapons O'Plenty Ya'll!! GBO!

Not sure how good he will be but every program puts its money on guys who are physically talented who they believe can be developed.

He will make the WR room more competitive and does bring size to the group.

You're raining on my parade. We just got a former 5* WR to go with this offense. If the only thing he ever does is generate excitement for the program with other recruits that end up committing, he was worth the scholarship.
