I have always found warrior societies interesting. From the Spartans to Genghis Khan to the armys of Alexander the Great. And the whole Polynesian culture. Just hope the Vols start getting a some on board. Per capita there are more Samoans in the NFL than any other.
 
On a per-capita basis, football players of Samoan descent are statistically the most likely to play in the NFL. It makes total sense to leverage this pipeline as much as possible. There is a very well done article by Smithsonian Magazine about the history of football within the Polynesian culture, and Samoans in particular. It also provides some insight into why Utah and BYU have had deep historic pipelines into the islands.
