'19 CA LB Henry To'oto'o (Tennessee Signee)

He likes the SEC and has close connections at UT and Bama, so both schools have been ahead of the pack since his visit in June. UT was hoping to get him in for the big UF weekend, but his HS schedule doesn't sync and his coach doesn't like in-season visits. So it's looking like he won't get back until after his SR season, which is what he said in June.

SC is deep at LB and offered late; didn't recruit him as hard as other schools. He said distance wasn't an issue and he likes the competitiveness of the SEC, so unless something changes and he decides to stay closer to home, it'll probably come down to UT and Bama. Dark horse is Oregon, IMO.

Agreed about Oregon. Mario Cristobal is a monster recruiter. Going heads up against Oregon gives me the same feels like when you go up against Auburn in recruiting.

Yeah, I think Oregon will push hard. So far, though, To'oto'o seems to make up his mind and stick to it. As long as we have a competitive season, I think we're right there with Bama atop his list.

Na. I'll eat crow here if it happens. Bama has had success poaching plenty of kids from California under Saban. Tennessee wants to do the same. Long ways to go there, but he's only been to each campus one time. If he make multiple visits then I think UT has a real shot. I know Simon and others believe they're right in the mix though, with backs up what To'oto'o said about his leaders. Watch out for USC, too. They're not currently in his Top 5 but they remain a darkhorse threat.

I think you can throw Cal out of the running. If he's making a choice not necessarily based upon what's best for his future as a football player (i.e. academics), Cal as a program isn't on the same level as the others in his top 5 + USC. It wasn't that long ago where the Vols were recruiting heavy in California getting guys like Simon, Clausen, Foster, Bray, Gibril Wilson, among others. Moving forward we should be in a strong position to continue recruiting elite California players.

I think Berkeley is his safety valve-- the close-to-home school with an established pipeline into DLS. But from talking to people at UCLA, it sounds like he wants to go out-of-state. SC hasn't made him a priority and nobody knows that better than Ty Helton. Since HT will be visiting after the season, having a good year and finishing strong could really help UT.

I like our chances here. It sucks that Alabama also has a local connection in Lupoi but UT offers a better chance at early playing time. I think Pruitt has enough credibility to pull him to Knoxville.

what is with it with Cali coaches not liking/allowing visits during the year? Seems like we have run across several who feel that way. seems geared to keep kids in state.

To’oto’o spoke with Brian Marchiano just a few hours after releasing his top five schools, and Marchiano asked him about all five of the schools he included in his list. When asked if Alabama and Tennessee are his top two schools, To’oto’o said that they were and went on to explain why.

“I loved it down there,” To’oto’o explained. “It was really great down there with Coach Pruitt and Coach Saban, and also Tosh Lupoi down there (at Alabama) and Kevin Simon at Tennessee. It was just going down there and seeing the De La Salle alum.”

Kevin Simon, a former linebacker for Tennessee, is now an assistant coach in an off-field role for UT. He played at De La Salle High School over in Concord, California, the same high school To’oto’o currently plays at. Because of that, Simon and To’oto’o have developed a strong bond

This is the only other LB I want in this class to go with Lakia. He's definitely an upgrade over Patterson and has really good instincts and plays sideline to sideline.

You think QC is a running back?

I like his production and how he runs. His future is probably on defense though. We have potentially some good LB's for next year with Bituli, JJ, Ignont (if he develops), Lakia as ILB next year. Plus we'll still have Sapp, Allen, Taylor, and Reid coming back.

Our RB's will be Banks, Jordan, Banks, and maybe Beasley depending on where he ends up when he gets to campus. I'd say he's a RB. Hoping anyway.

Looks like we'll be relying on Banks a lot.
