'18 CA QB JT Shrout (UT signee)

I’d take him over Martinez personally. He’s got a great deal of upside and fits our system better. Reminds me of a gunslinger farve type

Here's what some NFL evaluators thought of JT Shrout this past summer:

Shrout shined amid a loaded field of quarterbacks that included the country’s top 2018 prospect (Justin Fields), the top 2019 prospect (JT Daniels) and the grandiose potential of an elite 2020 prospect (DJ Uiagalelei). All are stellar and have physical advantages over the slight Shrout, but none flashed the same skill set. “He’s the beautiful, natural-looking girl with no make-up in the corner of the room,” said Rich Bartel, a former NFL quarterback who trains quarterbacks in Texas. “There will be a lot of other sexy people who walk in front of your eyes, but he’s the one you should marry in terms of quarterbacks.”

Meet the unheralded high school QB who already has NFL coaches salivating

In general, here's the standard for QB Evaluation Criteria that scout look at:

I just don’t get why everyone is acting like it’s a probability that QD is leaving. New staff may prefer a senior and he had some success last year.

Lot of MAY there. We ain’t getting him either!

Lol 😂 he’s the one you should marry.

I guess I may be in the minority but I think 3 scholarship QBs is fine for one more season, especially if everyone thinks we are going to be a 6-6 team. Let the staff fill out the rest of this class and give them next year to go get the guy they really want.

Thing is we don't know what Dormady is gonna do and he's had numerous shoulder issues which isn't good if your a QB.We were dangerously close to having 2 walk-on's as 1 and 2 last year. If JG wasn't as tough as he is that would have happened. That isn't anything we even wanna be close to having to do.We need atleast 1. Surely there's a JUCO QB out there or even a graduate transfer looking for a change of scenery. But regardless we need atleast 1 and even 2 if the right ones were out there.Damn GA and Clemson are getting a 5* QB every class and we struggle to be in on 3* or 4*. Ala has one riding the bench that would start for a lot of schools and really should be starting in Tuscaloosa. I'm betting he takes over as starting QB next season.

He may turn out to be a great college QB but his stats are kind of concerning against high school competition.

Alabama and UGA didn't just have a coaching change, and it is December, 6 days before the first early signing period ever.

There's not many 4-5* QB's out there that have a mind that can be changed at this point.

We have signed JG, he was a 4*. QD was a 4*. We CAN get highly rated QBs here.

This year, it might be hard, so hope that if we do take one, its' someone who has a lot of upside and who can be developed properly. Because that's been the missing piece is QB development.

I don't know man, you would think a staff somewhere would have found him by now. Thus, him getting more offers and his recruiting ranking increasing. None of that has happened!

Maybe Pruitt is going with the Saban philosophy of winning: let elite defenses and offensive lines win you championships. You can have average quarterbacks if those two are in place.

He’s landed 4 and 5 star signalcallers all along tho. Just plays the best guy regardless

Looks like a lot of good touch passes mixed in with some showing off his arm strength. That touch is hard to learn. JG still doesn’t have it

JG lacks good pocket presence, an internal clock to sense pressure and a lack of confidence in what he sees ahead of him, which may be justified given the coaching he’s had and the WRs he has. But let’s not get it twisted....JG made some awfully good throws last season on multiple routes, at multiple depths. He has a strong, accurate arm, capable of making all the throws, including the ones requiring touch imo.

give JG a line, and any semblance of a running game, and i think he can be really good. he spent too much time getting picked up off the mat.

this shrout kid, i'd say the same thing. looks like his HS oline was awful. and they threw it deep..........a lot.

The article says that he fractured his fibula at the end of his sophomore year, so that's why he didn't play his junior year.

Also noted from reading this article - it was written by Vol Hater extraordinaire Pete Thamel. So now I want to get Shrout so we can throw this in Thamel's face that our "inferior" coach was able to pull a guy out of California that he wrote about in such glowing terms.

Yeah we can't draw any conclusions about our QBs. They were never put in a position to win. I wouldn't mind even seeing Worley coached in this offense. Butch laid waste to him.
