‘23 CA QB Nicholaus Iamaleava (Tennessee)

Pruitt isn't here anymore.

They will have a competition and NICO will win it.

These people thinking Milton will somehow be able to suddenly become an effective QB are insane. There's ZERO evidence to suggest that.

And here we are wanting the best QB commit we've had since Peyton Manning to sit and learn🙄. Learn what? How to lose???

Seems pretty unlikely that a skinny freshman will be able to develop his body and learn the offense well enough to run it as fast as we do and process all of the options. His skill is amazing, but there is a bunch more to being effective than just having a good arm.

Being developed the right way starts with a redshirt and student/athlete acclimation.

Why would Nelson flip to a underachieving program with little recent evidence of QB development over a blue blood in his own backyard with one of the best QB developers around?

Not to mention the kid was committed to OU before he flipped to USC.

USC will match any NIL number A&M throws out.

A'M has deeper pockets than USC ever will.

Freshman QB's do it every year and at higher levels than they ever have.

Joe Milton won the job over Hendon Hooker last year. That cost us the Pitt game and now Hooker is a dark horse Heisman candidate.

That isn't to disparage the coaches. But it is to say that camp battles are not an exact science, and the staff definitely believes in Milton.

I could easily see a scenario where Milton wins the competition by this time next year.

Yes, of course there are some kids showing up physically and mentally ready to play at that level. They are the exception. It would be malpractice for a coach to plan for that.

If he can run the full offense at full speed, and is ready to take the hits (in the SEC) when he's called or forced to run, then he should play. Just seems unlikely that will be true year one.

Rivals had Trevor Lawrence listed at 6'5" 200lbs. They have Nico at 6'6" 205. Not saying situations are the same but Lawrence is credited with 15 games played his freshman year. Nico could be so talented that you have to get him on the field.

Ignorant post joe Milton will be in his 3rd year in the system and have sat behind one of the best QBs to wear Orange and white for 2 years studying competing and learning… he has the trust and respect of the team and coaching staff there will be a lot about being a college Qb that he can help Nico with… you guys who think Nico is walking in Day 1 with nothing to learn and improve on are crazy… joe’s size and skill is comparable to anyone in the nation he will win the starting job from game 1 how long he keeps it will be determined by his play In game… he ran the offense efficiently when he started just could not hit the deep ball… think Mahomes with Nico let em sit behind a seasoned guy and learn the little details of playing Qb and preparing to be a starting Qb in the toughest conference in America… then have em battle it out with tayven and let the best man win…

There’s zero evidence to suggest he won’t become “effective”, in fact with 2 years of coaching from Heupel and Halzle there is more evidence that he will in fact continue to improve. There is undeniable potential for him to be a very good QB, Heupel & Halzle have proven they have the ability to develop QBs. Players are not stuck where they are; they practice, they develop, they improve from day to day, week to week, month to month, year to year; the only limiting factor is the desire to improve.

Also, it is interesting you brought up Peyton Manning… his freshman year, came into the first game as QB 3 (technically 3a w/ Brandon Stewart being 3b), he was behind Jerry Colquitt and Todd Helton. The plan was not for Peyton to play in that game but unfortunate injuries thrust him in to action early; in fact if I recall correctly I seem to recall an interview in which either Archie or Olivia stated they were told Peyton was to red shirt and spend time in a college weight training program before seeing the field. That is not an uncommon occurrence, even for top QB recruits. There is a big difference between high school and college.

I don’t think most recruits think they have to come in and be a superstar on day 1. Especially ones who are interested in the team, rather than self. Most want to come in and learn and prepare for when their number is called.
