Calapari says, "Tennessee is playing better than anyone in the country right now."

Cal will say some nice things, but much of what he says is for a reason. He is a great manipulator. He said we should be in the NCAAT late last year because he was trying to prop up the conference. Half of what he says either isn't true or greatly exaggerated.

I don't deny that for a second. I assure you, I take Cal's words with a grain of salt.

But I still don't see him as the villain that others do.

Cal has been complimentary of Tennessee on many occasions since his arch-nemesis left. It tells me that he doesn't feel threatened.

Typical Calapari. Every year he tries to compliment the teams in his conference near tournament time. He did it in CUSA, and now the SEC. Don't take it to heart, he is a master at BS.

It's just a ploy to get us vol fans excited about Martin so he don't have to face pearl at tn again. Seems that serveral of the sec coaches are trying this approach.

I was watching the WKYT news in Kentucky and they asked Calapari how he felt about the SEC tournament. He said that he felt like it was wide open. He mentioned Tennessee and said, "They're playing better than anyone in the country right now. They're beating teams by 30!" It may be all coach talk but it sounded like he was really giving Tennessee credit on how good they're playing right now. Is this a positive sign going into the SEC tournament? Could we be the biggest sleeper team in the NCAA tournament?

One tournament at a time...dear Lord some people woke up optimistic today...

We beat extremely mediocre and less than mediocre teams. Let's not get too excited.

Didn't Cal also say that Coach Barbee should win SEC COY?

oldest coach trick in the book. it's best to keep a guy around that you routinely destroy. spurrier always loved goff. saban always loved dooley. calapari knows theres a chance we could end up with bruce again (who actually has his number imo) and wants to say or do anything he can to get 2 more easy sec wins next year.

In defense of his statement, Tennessee is "hot" right now. Name me other teams that have won their past 3 games by an average of over 30 points.

That being said, the season AS A WHOLE has not been nearly as good as it could have been. We know, now, that the talent exists for us to play great. And...we haven't. We should be fretting over a 4 or a 5 seed, not praying that our bubble won't burst.

Neyland famously approached Wallace Wade (I believe I have my history right) before a UT v. Bama game and convinced him to cut the second half short if Wade's "superior" team started whipping Neyland's "outgunned" UT team. The second half of the game wasn't shortened, and UT won.

Yup, the oldest trick is to not give your opponent ammunition while you make them think you're running out.

EDIT: I hate typing on my phone and am really upset that I somehow missed the autocorrect of Neyland. Ugh. Apologies to the General.

What have I flipped back and forth on? Said since before the year, I'll judge him at seasons end, no tourney and he should be gone...that's still my feeling.

were you not judging him after the A&M loss ? pretty sure you were and posters couldn't believe you were turning.

In spite of his reputation here, I think BTO has been pretty consistent all year. I think everyone here was pretty much in agreement it looked like Martin had to go, as was I, but at least for me that was assuming we were going to lose 1 or 2 more. I can't speak for BTO but I'm going to guess that was his line of thinking as well.

Plus there's plenty of time for Martin to tick everyone off again.
