California ban on same-sex marriage struck down

I know the scriptures you reference. I will also point you to Matt. 5:27-28 and Jam. 2:10.

Of course, you'll find sermons, people, etc who will try to tell you what was meant, which to me is dangerous.

Each sin, while may have varying degrees, are the same in that it takes the same kind of redemption to get into Heaven. You cannot justify any of them to God.

Now, we have both said our peace, and will get back on topic. :)

Nice pot shot, your are right, I can't think for myself!

:eek:k:

It is really as simple as this....

God does point out though that there are degrees of sin in regards to punishment. The sin of deceiving (or trying to deceive) God's church (through false teaching, etc) is shown to be the most serious sin, with a special punishment including "blackest darkness". It's hard to image that their can be worse torments in Hell than the unquenchable fire and despair that await all who go there.

In another way, in the area of earthly consequences, there are also degrees of sin. The Bible shows us that all sin has consequences (read the Old and New Testaments). Some sins have greater consequences. Needless to say, the sin of committing adultery of the heart (thinking lustful thoughts) has consequences affecting only one person versus committing the act of adultery (sex outside of marriage) which has consequences affecting two persons. (See Matt 5:27-28). God's forgiveness for sin (if sought) does not mean that the earthly consequences (big or small) for that sin necessarily go away...
Galatians 6:7-8
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

Tiger Den, I believe it's okay to think homosexuality is wrong (I agree). However, I think it's quite wrong to throw out "disgusting," "freak," and other harmful words. I'm guilty of it when people here on VN annoy me - I call them "idiots," "morons," etc. It's a bad thing to do, IMO.

OE, I promise you it wasn't a potshot. When I said "You'll find ..." it was or an all encompassing "you" because I know the sermons/lessons exist.

VIA I understand what you are saying but let me ask you a question . When you see two guys holding hands or kissing , how does that make you feel ? Please dont tell me turn and look away , I want to know how it makes you feel . Maybe it's me and only me but I feel disgusted when I see this .I dont think that I have called anyone freaks or morons only that it disgusts me to see men with men or women with women , sorry I cant help the way it makes me feel .

What in the world does my feelings have to do with any thing?

Do you believe in freedom or not?

The way he talks, New Bern must be overrun by the local chapter of GLAAD.

I'm not familiar with GLAAD , Please elaborate mg because I dont think i've seen any GLAAD shirts in the town cafe or running around NEWBERN lately

The way you sound, Newbern (sorry for splitting it up earlier) is overrun with homosexual couples.

I'm sure their around , just not real visable , and actually I kind of like it that way . That's one reason I live in this small town that you seem amused by.

I'm from a small town too and I actually prefer living in small towns, but not because they're insular and full of prejudice.

I didn't read all the posts, because I got halfway through and felt sick from some of you all.

For those of you leaning on the Bible for this one, let me point some things out to you (and keep in mind that I am a full blown Christian).

1. The Bible does in fact say homosexuality is wrong. However, it does NOT say that we, as Christ's children, are the ones who pass that judgment or condemn those who do wrong. GOD HANDLES THAT, NOT US. Every single one of you acting holier than thou on this need to ALSO dust off your Bibles.

2. Also, the Bible says all sins are the same. Thusly, every state should ban getting drunk in your private home, every state should ban insults, etc. We all fail everyday at being a good Christian, and these people are no different.

Article 1 is dead on VIA, but I must agree with OE on Article 2. My comments on it, are basically the same as his, only buried about midway through this thread. I believe there are degrees of sin and there are degrees of rewards we receive in Heaven.

I will also agree with you that it's largely based on interpretation of the passages though.

I can't believe that people actually believe homosexuality is not a choice. Everything is a choice in this world, especially that. That's why they call it "sexual preference". If it wasn't a choice then it would be called "sexual sicknesses".

hereby nominated as most absurd post in a thread absolutely littered with absurdity. Congratulations, that took some doing.

As much as I hate to admit - the science is pointing to it not being a choice, necessarily.

How so?? I'm sorry, but the main stream scientists that like to talk a lot don't seem to have the good of mankind as a focus of their's mostly. Their name in big letters and the money they receive to endorse things is mostly what matters to them. Pay people enough money or give them significant resources to do research and you could get anyone to say about anything these days.

I haven't read this thread and don't intend to but I would like to put my two cents in on same sex mariages. Since two living beings of the same sex cannot procreate why should they be designated as being married? So they can take advantage of the income tax laws? That's what I thought. Carry on people.

Or maybe draw social security off of them:dunno:

All of the benefits....income tax laws, health insurance, the right to be a family member that can influence care if your spouse gets sick, etc. Right now...homosexual couples have few legal rights when it comes to such things...the last one can be particularly troubling.
