California Lunacy Thread

spent a week in San Diego, LA, and the surrounding areas. not as bad as it was made out to be, but definitely major problems.

the more tourists in the area, the higher the concentration of homeless. Hollywood blvd was pretty bad, they had a steer skid cleaning out a homeless camp with three trash trucks. constant pan handling and of course the other money grabbers trying to trick you into taking a photo of/with them.

rest of it wasn't bad at all. locals we stayed with definitely told us NOT to go downtown as it was unsafe. very liberal, but also said nothing really to do in the area.

definitely smell the smog everywhere. one of the first things I noticed stepping off the plane in burbank was the smell of the smog, and it was more than just the planes.

I did want to post this. This is Right at where the homeless camp was being cleaned out. Even in California vegans are too much20240715_094510.jpg

No idea how "HateVegans" turns into an actual phone number but apparently it is real.

Mind of I ask about your San Diego experience as far as the same? Haven't been out there in a while and wonder from time to time is all.

Damaging Scandal that's engulfed Progressive Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao deepens as shocking new detail emerges about FBI Raid on her home

Feds who raided Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao's home last month left with a phone belonging to her and her partner Andre Jones, it's been revealed.

The fact was first reported by The San Francisco Chronicle, after it was already revealed that agents left with the mayor's cellphone and her personal computer.

Within five days, a federal grand jury issued a subpoena to the Bay Area city that demanded all 'documents and communications related to Andre Jones' be turned over.

They also requested all 'calendar entries or records' of meetings that included either one of the two since June 2022 - five months before Thao, 39, was even elected.

More than a month later, feds have yet to say why they are interested in the pair, but the seizure of Jones' cellphone raise questions about the potential involvement of a man who played a small but significant role in the mayor's political career.

The spotlight on Jones had already widened in recent weeks, as Thao's former chief of staff, Renia Webb, publicly accused him of corruption.

Despite working in politics for decades - once as Oakland city Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan's chief of staff - Jones's life and political career is surprisingly shrouded in mystery. The fresh subpoena's appear to hint that he is the subject of feds' probe

Sorry, I didn't see this.

Only spent time along the waterfront in San Diego, which was pretty nice. The homeless were generally kept away from the tourist areas, but looking around you could see them taking over some areas.

overall looked, and smelled far better than what I saw of LA, but didn't spend as much time there.

Thanks for the update Louder!

I had some Navy friends who were born and raised in southern Cal who showed me around the area when I got there. They used to love them some Cali. 3 of them and their families have moved away. All for the same reason of taxes, homelessness, and crime.

It's a shame. I thought it was great back in early to mid 00's. Of course my interests back them were WAY different lol. I'm sure the women are just as pretty now as they used to be!

another one is leaving....

(Bloomberg) -- "Chevron Corp. is relocating headquarters to Houston from California after repeatedly warning that the Golden State’s regulatory regime was making it a tough place to do business.

The move announced Friday will end the company’s more than 140 years of being based in the largest US state and comes amid a shake-up in senior leadership ranks apparently aimed at improving results.

Chevron already had slashed new investments in California refining, citing “adversarial” government policies in a state which has some of the most stringent environmental rules in the US. In January, refining executive Andy Walz warned that the state was playing a “dangerous game” with climate rules that threatened to spike gasoline prices
