California Lunacy Thread

They ran out of water and completely mismanaged the fire in 2016 in East TN...

Just wondering where the outrage was for that?

There is always going to be some element of mismanagement to point to. We've had bad fires in Utah and AZ, and we have more the kind of management people are looking for (controlled burns, etc.). **** still happens. Hell, the Smoky Mtns got ****ed up a few years back, and that's rainforest compared to here.

We don't have the infrastructure or geography they do in CA, and we still have bad fires. I had a friend die in one (fighting it. Seen the movie Only the Brave?). It's impossible to know how much blame who deserves for what, but that's not gonna stop any of you in here with an axe to grind.

They deserve all the criticism they’re getting and more. Bad shizz happens even to the best of people but when you have made it a point to publicly display your dumbazz ideas you deserve to catch the crap being flung.

For sure.

Forest fires happen.
Rain (doesn’t) happen.
Wind blows.

None of that is controllable. This fire was going to happen eventually.

Forest management and water infrastructure were the controllables that exacerbated the situation.
you aren't always responsible for what happens to you, but you are responsible for how you react to what happens to you.

a fire was going to happen eventually.

if there had been a fire in the hills around Pasadena and they were put out, no one cares.

if this same fire had broken out, and there was no shortage of firemen, water, planes, etc. and the fire was just as bad as it is, people wouldn't be (as) upset.

people care because this fire wasn't controlled. it wasn't controlled for several reasons. lack of rain, and winds have happened in other fires that were controlled. however there is a shortage of firemen. there is a shortage of access to water. there is a shortage of the heavy lift planes. all of those things are what people are upset about.

IDK, good question. Did they make public displays of idiocy for years prior?

Not enough resouces in Gatlinburg, misjudged fire, ran out of water - No political griping

Same thing in Maui and LA - DEI's fault. Wokeness caused the fires and impact.

Huh? Do you know what that means? Because that's not what you were saying at all
Don’t tell me what I was saying or what was meant. I said libs won’t give Musk credit or acknowledge his contribution as just that because they don’t like him b/c of his politics and relation to Trump. Dunk, give ration of s***, one up… whatever you want to call it, have at it. You’re splitting hairs.

Believe we are seeing the end of the Newsom reign of California.
Liberals in CA voted for Biden and would have voted for him again if he had run but they voted for Harris and they, UNTIL NOW, suffer no real big personal loss voting for Dems. Now that they are suffering tragic personal loss, they might change their vote...who knows.

I know.

They absolutely will not.

It could be proven absolutely and definitively that this was arson exacerbated by political incompetence and they'd still blame "climate change" and "not doing enough to stop climate change". And they'd continue to vote for the same dumbasses that have made this situation way worse than it needs to be and that would rather hang out in West Africa than do their damn jobs.

not enough resources, just because of the size of the fire or size of the city?

or not enough resources because Gatlinburg took away money from their fire departments and had their fire chiefs divert money and focus on bible readings and opening up gun ranges?

I don't think there is anything to criticize in the first, but there is plenty to criticize in the second. LA sounds like the second scenario.

LA City and LA County have 2 billion dollar budget for fires...taking a million out for DEI crap is literally .0005 of the budget.

Maybe Gatlinburg and the State misjudged what was needed for fire protection. Maybe they didnt want to spend and put too much trust in the Feds....

Prediction:

People are going to take their insurance money and leave California. They won't rebuild and it will look like a war zone for years.
(not sure how much of this is accurate)

State Farm wanted to raise rates in CA, state would not allow it.

State Farm pulls all policies in CA and "leaves the state"

75 percent of Pacific Palisades does not have fire insurance but will be able to claim from something called a state FAIR fund that has a solvency of about $200 mil

After that .... the remaining in-state insurance companies have to fund the rest of the claim.

Guess who gets screwed next

here is one side of the story
