California Lunacy Thread

Imagine if a black lesbian were in charge? Everybody here would have memories of reasons to be critical.

View attachment 713225
why did you bring up a black lesbian to me? I said you guys are right to push back on the DEI bs. but just because it isn't a DEI issue, doesn't mean there isn't some other issue at play.

the only mismanagement I am seeing is the reverse 911 system, which doesn't fight fires. and then pumping systems failing due to either winds or the fire. which I have a hard time seeing as a mismanagement. No one is blaming LA for not flying aircraft due to the high winds. And I haven't seen the lack of water in LA blamed on failure of pumps due to fires or the wind. the failure of their water system is just due to a lack of water from various decisions they made over time.

yall are trying to conflate WAY too many things as if they are the same.

If you are to "blame" anything, it will be lack of federal and state land management.

Blaning local DEI and a less than 1% budget cut locally is largely political posturing...
Has anyone really argued against that here? You're the dumbass locked into the budget, again, over and over. You're not arguing with anything I, or really anyone else, has said, other than saying we're blaming a year of DEI initiatives (which is false).

Did I talk about DEI BS? I literally told the guy singling out a year of budget is idiotic. I also didn't say they "DEI'd" their way into mismanagement. Perhaps you ought to read before spouting off like a clown.

Anyways, my point is that "DEI" always gets lumped in and too narrowly considered as some type of government spending or education program. I think it's way more prevalent as a way of thought for lack of a better way to put it. Any time anyone talks about putting elected officials into office for "inclusion" or "diversity" reasons (as they're commonly used), they're just embodying what all this DEI crap is about. These officials will almost always go along with whatever the party line is, because they're often not qualified or intelligent enough to fight for the right thing, or they're scared that the rug will be pulled out from under them if they don't, because they essentially owe the whole movement/party for getting into their position. At the end of the day, you end up with unqualified people, put into position for reasons outside of competence, making wrong decisions and exacerbating every bad situation there is.
yes you specifically mentioned DEI in the post I quoted. you were questioning their motive based on DEI decision making.

Yes, there have been plenty of posts/ X reposts focusing on the budget cuts, mayor going to Ghana, and DEI instead of real culprits (dry weather, wind, fed/state land mismanagement)...

So how about you go carry out this argument with the people that are making it, instead of randomly attaching it onto people that aren't?

The comment was attached to a response to your request, and it is for everybody because we are on a message board with many people.

Did you read the whole list? How is that your conclusion?

"The fire, initially ignited by teenagers on Chimney Tops Trail in the Smoky Mountains, was allowed to burn under a "monitor and manage" strategy common in wilderness areas. This decision was based on the assumption that the fire would remain contained."

I only attached something to hog. I believed his reference to "public displays of idiocy" partially referred to DEI.

He gave his explanation. I understand where he's coming from and I bet he probably understands how I could have assumed that "public displays of idiocy" could refer to DEI...

Chimney Top is part of Gatlinburgs control? I figured it would have been under the state/federal forest control? If it is you are completely changing my understanding of the situation and I would agree, but my understanding says that isn't part of Gatlinburg's control being in a national forest.

if this LA fire had started in the Angeles National Forest you would have a comparison to make.

I would say his and the prior administration (Brown) really screwed up the insurance marketplace out there.

That is the one item you can lay at his feet 100%...
Agreed

I heard a report saying that insurance providers weren't permitted to raise rates in the state of Cali which made the companies drop coverage for fire insurance. If true, talk about horrible timing.

I didn't know the entire point of all this was just to criticize city governments. Well, there were criticisms of the limited resources locals had for response in there, too.

I don't even understand where we're at with your point. Do reverse 911 failures not count as failures? People died. Nothing to criticize there?

The question is how clearing forests or not is a liberal / conservative issue.
Well the first question is whether it’s a problem or not.

You seem to be indicating that you believe forest management is a significant contributing factor here - but I didn’t want to assume.

No. I mention it to highlight the broader issue of water mismanagement throughout California. Watershed is critical and in removing watershed it restricts what farmers will be allowed to siphon off for crops. It also takes away relatively inexpensive hydroelectric power generation as well, which is planned to be replaced with what will undoubtedly be more expensive mix of alternative energy for consumers to make up for that loss. There’s more to this agreement and has been in the works for a while, but for a state in such dire need of more water, this hardly makes sense other than it placates the environmentalist.
Where those dams were removed gets a lot of rain so it's not like the farmers there depended on the reservoirs. And it's far from the areas in dire need of water. If they'd rather get the salmon runs back and pay more for electricity then that's up to them.

I never heard of a libertarian put up such a staunch defense of a government and its agencies.
