Great read. Very interesting.Check out the book Longitude, by Dava Sobel. Interesting story of the history of time(keeping). Not too long a book, but you realize just how important functioning clocks were for navigation in this period of western global expansion.
Hint: There is a reason survey/navigation calls are in degrees, minutes and seconds and your analog watch has hours, minutes and seconds.
Apparently the right-wing rag Vox didn’t get the memo from @jwells that this ^ kind of talk is “premature” at this point. When the most liberal of all liberal ass rags calls out the liberal idiocy of California you know the place is one incredibly F’ed up place
There are no grown-ups in California
Will the state’s fire mismanagement finally force Californians to demand better?www.vox.com
Great read. Very interesting.
What I read from this thread either directly or indirectly by following a link or post said something like $70 or 78 million dollars was cut. Thats not 2% of any numbers listed in this thread that actually apply because their budget is ~970 million?
Furthermore...I dont care if it was 20 million which would be 2%...how many more of those broke down fire trucks fully staffed with firefighters would just $20 million dollars a year buy??? A bunch. Bet 20 fully staffed. How many more diesel mechanics (which were part of the cuts according to the article) could just $ 1 million dollars a year buy? How many more trucks would have been available to fight fires? They cut the budget and laid people off to give even more money to the homeless people who are said to be responsible for 50% of the fires that take place in LA (also from this thread, and interviews).
