LA Mayor's Office Silent On Deputy Who Was In Charge Of Fire Dept., Placed On Leave For Alleged Bomb Threat

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass' decision to place her top public safety official on leave faces renewed scrutiny

As wildfires wreaked devastation across Los Angeles, the city official in charge of the fire department was out of the picture – placed on administrative leave in December while he remains under investigation for an alleged bomb threat against City Hall earlier this year.

LA Deputy Mayor Brian Williams’ Pasadena, California home was raided by the FBI last month in connection to the investigation of a bomb threat which was made against City Hall in September. The Los Angeles Police Department referred the case to the FBI after it determined Williams was likely the "source of the threat," FOX 11 Los Angeles reported.

"Due to the department’s working relationship with Mr. Williams, the investigation was referred to the FBI," the LAPD said in a statement at the time. "The FBI remains the investigating agency."

Check out the book Longitude, by Dava Sobel. Interesting story of the history of time(keeping). Not too long a book, but you realize just how important functioning clocks were for navigation in this period of western global expansion.

Hint: There is a reason survey/navigation calls are in degrees, minutes and seconds and your analog watch has hours, minutes and seconds.
Great read. Very interesting.

So apparently Rick Caruso spent time early in his career serving as the head of LA Water & Power.

Wonder if that experience would have served LA better than what Karen Bass brought to the table. 🤷‍♀️

When the most liberal of all liberal ass rags calls out the liberal idiocy of California you know the place is one incredibly F’ed up place

Apparently the right-wing rag Vox didn’t get the memo from @jwells that this ^ kind of talk is “premature” at this point.

Great read. Very interesting.

Yep. Thanks guys. I downloaded and read the illustrated version (free) last night. Just had to google" Longitude" and the authors last name (Sobel)and scroll down a bit.

Fwiw...i think Harrison was probably autistic. Amazing genius no doubt. His own writing trying to explain his amazing device "had a first sentence that spanned 25 pages with little to no punctuation"...lol. He had at least a touch of the 'tism. I do too. It also said he had trouble talking with people and expressing his ideas clearly which caused him great frustration. The Brits likely dont colonize more than half the countries on Earth without his advances.

What I read from this thread either directly or indirectly by following a link or post said something like $70 or 78 million dollars was cut. Thats not 2% of any numbers listed in this thread that actually apply because their budget is ~970 million?

Furthermore...I dont care if it was 20 million which would be 2%...how many more of those broke down fire trucks fully staffed with firefighters would just $20 million dollars a year buy??? A bunch. Bet 20 fully staffed. How many more diesel mechanics (which were part of the cuts according to the article) could just $ 1 million dollars a year buy? How many more trucks would have been available to fight fires? They cut the budget and laid people off to give even more money to the homeless people who are said to be responsible for 50% of the fires that take place in LA (also from this thread, and interviews).

That's not what happened. $17m was cut from administrative positions and overtime budget. If you did see a $76m budget number, that's what was added in November. I literally cited those numbers in the post right before yours where it explains where the cuts went. It didn't go to fire trucks.
