Please tell me you really believe that.

Stop and think for a minute. University Housing would be inundated with every Tom, Dick and Harry trying to pull strings, call in favors, etc. I'd be a disaster and an NCAA inquiry waiting to happen. Randon draw eliminates all the hassle.

I'd say you have some randoms, but I also bet there's some called in favors.

Even if it was completely random, everyone would still be trying to call in favors and pull strings.

He almost slipped and put "but they don't pay their recruits to commit" but realized it at the end and deleted it.

I don't know and haven't cared enough to find out myself so I'll simply ask...

That new housing for UK basketball players...what are the specifics. I heard its only for athletes, I thought there was a NCAA rule prohibiting that and requiring 51% of tenants to be non athletes.

There are non-student athletes in the Wildcat Lodge and they share every common area in the dorm except they can't eat at team meals that are served at the facility.

So basically some lucky students get to be treated like kings, wonder how they decide which students get to reside there...

On a side note...they've set the standard, now you'll start seeing more and more luxurious as elaborate "athletic" housing.

Some of the non-student athletes include training staff and other assistants that work in the athletic department.

Billy Donovan also had some nice things to say about the Vols:

Donovan: Keep eye on Vols | Gatorsports.com

“Certainly Kentucky has a lot of individual talent, ability,” Donovan said at SEC basketball media day Thursday. “The teams that stands out to me, that has it all right now, more than anybody, is Tennessee. They are the best team, right now, in my opinion.”

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Florida coach Billy Donovan didn’t have much to say about the Gators being picked to finish second in the Southeastern Conference.

But Donovan did have a feeling about which team should be considered the best in the league.

“Certainly Kentucky has a lot of individual talent, ability,” Donovan said at SEC basketball media day Thursday. “The teams that stands out to me, that has it all right now, more than anybody, is Tennessee. They are the best team, right now, in my opinion.”

Tennessee was picked fourth in the SEC preseason media poll, behind Kentucky, Florida and Missouri. But Donovan said he liked Tennessee’s veteran core, led by senior center Jeronne Maymon and junior point guard Trae Golden. He also coached Tennessee sophomore power forward Jarnell Stokes over the summer for Team USA’s 18-under national team.

Donovan said he felt it took the Vols time to jell under first-year coach Cuonzo Martin last season, which resulted in early losses that prevented Tennessee from making the NCAA Tournament. Tennessee beat Florida twice last season.

“Everybody is talking about our experience, Tennessee has more experience than anybody in our league,” Donovan said. “If you look at them towards the end of the year they were playing very, very good basketball and I think they are as good as anybody in our league and certainly as physical and tough as anybody in our league.”

...I'm a Gator fan and I've got to agree. I remember last year I thought we would smoke you guys. However, we went up to Knoxville and lost, but I was like "that's probably just due to the early (11 am) start and the fact that our flight into TN was late." I made several excuses for that one and was thinking we'd destroy you at the O'Dome. But then you guys came down to the F-L-A and whipped us again, and I was sitting down here in my little Swamp Palace sayin' "Dayum, those Vols have a pretty solid team."

Part of me wants to believe we would have beaten you if we had drawn you in the SEC Tournament, but then another part feels like you would've just pounded us again. You guys just own us in basketball. I think you'll probably sweep us again this year.

Good luck to the Vols this year. I would love to see you take Kentucky down a notch (since we have no prayer).

Coach cal liked us last year and he's continuing to endorse us this season.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the title. Do you think Cal, even though he may believe these things, says them to the media to rub it in to Bruce Pearl's face? Either way, I hated Cal when we had Pearl, but now I read his quotes, and its hard not to like the guy. Maybe it fits in with atmosphere brought by Pearl vs Martin.

Nah, I think he liked Pearl genuinely. Who wouldn't? CBP was great for college BB.

No. Cal is undisputedly the best now. He has little-to-no reason to bicker about anything anymore. He is playing it smart, and it's working for him. I expect a lot more success for UK with Cal.

@UKCoachCalipari on Tennessee "They're going to be much better than people think. They play the way you win in the NCAA Tournament."

Meant to post this earlier in the week but got caught up at work and never got around to it. SIAP.

Yea he also says he doesnt think his team is any good....dont believe a word this man says. He likes to put down his own early, praise them later while making his opponents feel like they have a chance.:loco:

Like him or not Cal has done a great job talking up the SEC since his arrival....does it benefit his team as well ? Sure it does but I give credit where it is due.

I also think its true that the SEC is better now than it has been in the last 5-10 years, especially in what used to be known as the east.
