Call me old fashioned, but I would love to see the NCAA and the SEC in particular, crack down on trash talking. Do your talking between the snap and the whistle with your pads. Otherwise shut up the blabber.:banghead2:
You have been the victim of more trash talking on this thread than all the opponents of the Miami Hurricanes during the 80's. For what it's worth, I agree with you. It's called trash talk because it is talk coming from trash. I don't see it much on the PGA Tour.

It's comical to pretend that trash talk just became prevalent. It was the same way 20 years ago.

It was more prevalent 30 years ago.

Even before then (article from the 60's involving our favorite team).
All week Tennessee fans taunted Ole Miss with cries of - 11.24.69 - SI Vault

OP, you're not "old fashioned", you're unrealistic.

"Trash talk" is a part of the game, and a part of any competitive event. It's been around in football for the better part of a century now. All of the old rivalries that football fans love are laced in pranks, trash talk, and heated competition.

Trash talk led to Neyland Stadium getting lights.

Golf isn't nearly as emotional of a game either. Trying to compare the two is silly. Where there is intense physical competition there will be intense mental competition as well. Taking the emotion out of the game is ruining it.

There is plenty of emotion in competitive golf. The players just control it. Competition is competition. People want to win.
If people want to act like trash, they should be allowed to. It is up to the audience if they want to watch.

Haha.

One of the reasons I was able to converse so well in the USN was that I played golf.

I'm not big on calling you "old fashion". I'm gonna call you Steve instead. You think you can handle that much responsibility Steve?

One of the many reasons that golf is about as exciting as watching grass grow.

I wouldn't care if they tightened up the trash talking rule but what should have been changed years ago is an allowance for spontaneous celebration without a penalty. Football is a really emotional game and that part shouldn't be regulated as long as you aren't taunting opponent. No delay of game calls after a celebration either. Play clock should be extended in that situation.

I am ol fashioned as well. I believe the fkin kids themselves should have enough fkin dignity to keep their mouths shut and let their actions do the talking. That will never happen with the thuggish rogues that are the predominant participants these days. GO VOLS!

Right. The average IQ of the golfers is about double, and the ball is round and a lot smaller.

And it isnt nearly as physically, mentally, or emotionally taxing as football. All you do is swing a club a certain way to make the ball go in a hole.
