Callaway/Harris Sexual Assault Case

This is a fork in the road for Callaway and UF. They use an alumni and they don't reinstate Callaway I would suspect the story will slowly disappear unless then a civil case comes up. But if the Alumni in question reinstates Callaway this story will explode and the dark cloud will park over top of Gainesville.

As soon as the accuser complained about this they should have found someone else to hear the case. If for no other reason than it just looks bad, like this.

If they would have hired an unbiased party, this would probably have been over without anyone ever noticing. Now the national media will pick it up and crucify Florida like they did us. It will probably also drag out the case to the point where Callaway won't be reinstated.

and their fans have the nerve to talk about our title ix issues....

Every CFB fan who talked smack about UT's Title IX lawsuit is going to have a bad time over the next five years or so.

The floodgates are open now that FSU and UT have set the precedent.

If people could set aside the "I HATE DEM DANG Gators" nonsense for 5 seconds (I wish they would quit looking stupid and acting like UT is any better than UF here), they would see that this is truly the heart of the matter.

Lawyers, the media, and 'social activists' on college campuses have latched onto these cases, and colleges have learned 99% of the time, its just easier for the school to pay out to make it all go away.

Everyone will have a turn with it. Everyone.

All that said, someone at UF royally screwed the pooch. Any chance they had for this thing to quietly go away with nothing more than a little message board chatter died the instant ESPN got a hold of it. They're setting a narrative here and you aren't going to enjoy it. Ask your friends in Tallahassee and Knoxville...

However, as our resident UF litigator pointed out, the perception of impropriety of appointing a known booster to oversee such a hearing opens UF up to a serious question of judgment. Even if for some reason none of the facts checked out and Callaway was cleared, the fact they appointed a known program booster will make any lawyer giddy about going into in a civil case.

The booster, even if he's honorable, is between a rock and a hard place. The only way he comes through this clean is if he finds Callaway guilty of violating the student code of conduct.

ETA: I see your addition to the post and fully agree.

Callaway's attorney has replied.

That statement will be fun in the civil suit that is about to be filed. He just did a disservice to Callaway by the old "no offense, but" in the besmirching comment.

Is this lawyer that ignorant of the current landscape of these issues? We learned the hard way.

Seems that becoming associated with the University of Florida in any manner automatically turns people into arrogant *******s.

How is it possible that someone in UF's Title IX office thought this would fly? Good grief...

Just want to say, I'm proud of how we handle athletes and accusations. At least they are suspended until the issue is resolved. No appearance of cover up by Coach Jones, unlike what Florida is doing with Callaway. I cant add a link guys and mods please move if necessary.

I mean they have been able to keep the whole thing under wraps for quite a while. I guess they thought they were invincible.

You being proud of how we handle rape cases is not something I would say out loud

We don't allow any player in facilities is my point. Im not ashamed of how we handled it. The media made a big deal but I don't believe we handled it poorly. Not sure what you are referring.

Perhaps you should say "I hate that we had any rape cases at all. But at least our staff took swift and decisive action".
