Calling Out Pearl Haters (merged)

Ya know. Im a ky fan but i must say that was an amazing coaching job done last night by the Bruce. College basketball is about so much more than Xs and Os. That was inspiring basketball played by the VOLS last night and I really look forward the the two meetings this year between KY and TN. Congrats Vols. Best win by a down team ive seen in quite a few years. They needed this one.

I'm not into the emotional end of it. In the end, that will hurt us. I want us to win big games like it's something we expect to do.

We had a great regular season which led to Pearl's greatest achievement - SEC regular season title. Aside from that, we have jack to show for it.

Your posts always crack me up. Really, we dont have anything to show for it. As I told you and other Pearl Haters a couple of weeks back CBP has done the following since being here (four and a half seasons):

- 3 SEC East Titles
- 1 Outright SEC Championship
- A trip to the SEC Tourney Finals (Tell me when was the last time we went there?)
- 4 NCAA tourney appearances
- 2 Sweet Sixteen appearances
- a # 1 ranking
- Beat two #1 ranked teams
- Consistently ranked in the top 25
- Currently ranked #4 in average attendance (When he got here we had curtains in the upper deck)
- Averaged 24.5 wins a season (playing one of the strongest strenght of schedules)
- #4 on the winningest active coaches list (division 1)

Let me ask you something: What else do you expect the guy to do in the past four years? You expect us to be the Duke's and the UNC's of the world. However, you dont understand that getting there takes a great deal of exposure like beating the Kansas' Kentucky's and Memphis' on a consistent basis. Which we are beginning to do. So go back to the "fire bruce pearl" thread and get over your tired and weak argument that all Pearl has done here is win and SEC championship in an off year because its aint sticking brother. Its WEAK!!!!!!!! 99% of the programs out there would kill to have the record we have had over the past 4 years.

Haha You guys are hilarious, I'm done on that note. Yall are perfect and have never been the slightest bit wrong....ever. (Expect the "thank God, or "you should have quit along time ago" posts after me saying I'm done) they're coming- peace GURUS, oh btw, we just beat NO 1 hahahahahahaha

I expect our well paid coach to address the things that keep our team from winning big games. Your relativism doesn't change that there are gaping holes in his coaching approach.

Again, I'm not here to win your support. I fully expect my opinion to raise some ire, given the rampant homerism that drives our basketball fanbase. I'm fully comfortable that you think I have no idea what good coaching is or what appropriate goals for our program should be. It saddens me that our fanbase doesn't recognize the headlong investment that Hamilton has made here.

Go immediately to the rehab center. The crack has infiltrated your brain. Tell me what Gaps???? Your not getting my support dont worry. I dont work on opinions I work on facts like those stated above in my last post. I am glad you are comfortable with your argument because someone should be. Let me ask you what position do you think Pearl's salary ranks in the SEC?

I can see how things sound like that to you. Makes more sense now. You might not be as incapable of reasoned thought as I believed.

You know, they do have literacy courses for adults. I believe they will be discreet about it so as not to embarrass you. Look into it.

Not worth the effort. Look it up. It has been stated ad nauseum and nothing has changed.

I'm not talking about his salary, which I believe is reasonable. His results aren't, but he is paid market. The money poured into facilities and ancillary spending, however, is now on par with the behemoths of the sport, but I know you know nothing of that.

Texas just got their first ever #1 ranking. I'm sure their fans are happy with that and won't expect anything in the Tournament.

Of course they are. Texas is a football school, after all.

Even two of the Yankee talking heads on Around the Horn, Mariachi and Cowsh_tlaw, wanted to make it about Kansas losing rather than about Tennessee winning a great victory. Luckily Southerner Woody Paige was there to straighten them out by pointing out that a depleted Tennessee team valiently rose to the occasion and knocked off the number one team in the land. He finished off with "Go Vols!"

Here we go again. BigPapa and the never ending rhetoric and composition class. Give it a rest.

You keep posting your view of basketball and I'll keep posting as I wish.

Supporting Godawful English on our site is just pathetic. Give that crap a rest, as UT doesn't need to live up to the low expectations of the rest of the world.

I'm still amazed that people don't like Bruce Pearl. UT has never had this kind of success in basketball before and certainly not this kind of national exposure. When Green was around we made the tournament but no one was excited about it, no one cared and you could tell no one did. Now the fan base is energized and UT is quickly becoming and honest to god (men's)basketball school. Pearl hasn't missed an NCAA tourney and he brought home our first out right SEC season championship since the Ernie and Bernie days. There are a lot of Vol fans out there that have unrealistic views of our basketball team. Make no mistake about it, CBP is the best thing that has happened to our basketball program outside of Summit. He may never take us to a final four but he's the guy that's going to plant the seed that we can and should make it a goal every year for this program.

I think the skepticism involves his coaching, not whether people like or dislike him. Personally, I love Pearl. (I mean that in a strictly plutonic way.) However, I'm starting to wonder what's been going on the past couple of years. The days of first and second round bounces from the tourney should be over -- especially with the money, facilities, and commitment the athletic department is showing toward the men's basketball program.

Go Vols!

Pearl's in Year 5 in a sport in which one or two incoming freshman can make a huge difference. It shouldn't take years to rebuild, like it does in football. What's taking so long?

First off, I know you're a hat clone by the 'sycophants' ref... That Dennis Miller stuff is so lame.
Secondly, it took Pitino 7 years to win it all at UK, and that was already one of the most prestigious programs before he arrived. Also, that was in a time when the lower seeds had much less talent compared to now. Your impatience is ridiculous. We aren't rebuilding in hoops, we're building. Jerry Green was our gold standard, which CBP has already surpassed. If having the best coach we've ever had, the most talent we've ever had, and our best-ever recruiting class on the way isn't enough for you, you have stupid expectations. Pearl is who built this to the point where a Hopson, T Harris or Selby would even consider us. Get it yet?

The Pearl era has been fully enjoyable and good enough for me so far. More than good enough, based on the importance of UT basketball in my life. It really doesn't matter to me if we never win an NCAA championship in my lifetime. But if we do, it'll be a blast I am sure I will celebrate as I did with the 1998 football team (wasn't too concerned about ending a year ranked #1 in that sport, either). And I could care less who he phoned in 20+ years ago, or what he did/didn't do to his first wife, or that he seems to like a good tan. I got my own lessons learned and quirks to deal with.

Just one fan's view.

VGTX couldn't be further from a hat supporter.

You're right. Normally, I'm on my game with the grammar and spelling. I'm on the wagon, so the shakes are getting to me right now.

Ah, to hell with it... throw me a beer.

As many people as I've flamed for poor command of the English language, I suppose it's my turn to receive a little ribbing. Carry on...

Just bustin chops! It's all in fun.
