A few things:

1. He feels his team is "seeming to get better."
2. Tennessee is as talented as any team they've played this season.
3. This game is a "great test at a great time."
4. Gives Bruce credit for creating a "niche" that has gotten basketball out of the shadows of football and the Lady Vols.
5. Not sure if Wesley Witherspoon is going to have surgery or play out the season. He's going to have that discussion with the team doctor.
6. Tennessee is considerably more inside oriented than last year.
7. Didn't want to put Evans at the point, but finally did because he can do some things there that alleviate pressure on Anderson, Dozier, Mack, etc.
8. Thinks any alleged rift between he and Bruce is "something you guys(the media) play up."
9. Stiil thinks the game should be played in Nashville. Stated that each school would make 500K off the game every year and it would be good for lobbying efforts in a clmate of budget slashing. Also mentioned that Louisville wants to play Memphis in Nashville but his preference would be to play Tennessee there. About scheduling: "No one is going to force me to do anything."
10. Memphis has future games scheduled against Duke in Chicago and Kansas in St. Louis.

I don't agree with Cal on the UT vs Memphis game should be played in Nashville. Don't take the game away from the students...it should be on campus.

I understand the various reasons behind John's desire to play the game in Nashville, but I agree with you.

Wherever they play it, I hope the game continues. We don't really have a rival in football that values our game more than any other on their schedule. UF depises FSU more and Bama hates Auburn above all. It's really something special for our school and I'm almost certain that Memphis wants this one more than any other they play.

I'm quite confident, despite gnashing of teeth, the game will continue.

As much as Cal likes to pretend (and the fans do this too) he doesn't run the UM AD.

If Cal walked into RC's office tomorrow and said he was going to St. John's if he was forced to keep playing Tennessee in Knoxville, the series would be over immediately.

He won't do that. Cal enjoys being a big fish in a little pond. Guaranteed a good record evey year even when putting an average product out there. There is nothing he can do besides threaten to leave. Which, again, he won't.

Yeah, it's not like he was in the NBA or anything. Lots of big fish in small ponds there. What can Cal do beside threaten to leave? Take any of the myriad of jobs he could have at his whim. He'd have taken the Pittsburgh job if they hadn't been dead set on promoting Jamie Dixon.

Hat...little off topic...but I keep hearing Marlon Brown bball rumors while his football recruiting is going on.

Have you seen him play..and do you think he could he contribute at the next level?

He's also older and realized how much easier it is in cusa. If he wanted to leave fir bigger and betterthings he would listened to Arkansas or gone to NC State.

Hat, how good of a coach is Cal? I know he can recruit with the best in the country, but in terms of x's and o's, he is like bruce that it is not his strong suit or he is very, very good at strategy?

Nobody with an IQ above room temperature would work for the athletic department Frank Broyles built. Also, why would one take the NC State job when he could get any of about 20 better jobs?

...or it may have something to do with the fact UT can cut the cord on the football series, in which case that douchebag get's overruled by UM's AD. Memphis SURE doesn't want to lose that purse. memphis has such an inferiority complex, it's unsettling.

Neutral sites are lame, and should be reserved for tournaments and exhibition games. He is just mad about having to compete for recruits in Memphis with another big-time program. He is easily one of the most despicable coaches in college basketball. I've never even read a "media" article on he and Bruce, only the things that come directly out of his mouth.
Calipari is worth 10 times more in revenue to Memphis than the occasional football game with UT. RC won't be overruling him on anything.

You don't take UMASS from being the losingest program in D-I in the decade before your arrival to the Final Four without knowing how to coach.

Your right, i forgot a/b Umass, that was before my time.

Where does he rank among the coaches of college basketball? Top 5, Top 10? Do you think he's better than Bruce? Other than Roy Williams, Coach K, Bill Self, Ben Howland, Jim Boehim, Tom Izzo, and Jim Calhoun, I think he's up there...

Also Hat, do you think he's the best recruiter in the country? I think he could contend w/ Roy Williams and Rick Barnes in the recruiting department...

His resume dwarfs Pearl's. He's certainly in the upper echelon of coaches. One can reasonably argue he's the best active coach to have not won a National Championship.

Uh oh, here it comes.
Not really. I'm in the mood to let idiotic comments like that just hang in cyberspace and expose the poster as the mental invalid he is. I would, however, like to see him produce a single piece of evidence implicating John Calipari in wrongdoing regarding the recruitment of Marcus Camby.

I'm curious - is this just coach-speak?

Is Cal downplaying a legitimate rift between he and Pearl? Or, is there little to no rift, and the media truly exaggerates any tension that exists between the two?
