Cameron Carr Transferring

Per Basilio, “from his source with the team”, the program was blindsided. Barnes is really pissed off. Carr did it to preserve his “redshirt”.

If he’s an nba talent, why should he need a redshirt? If he’s that good, shouldn’t he just be able to prove next season here or elsewhere that he’s a draft worthy player? Again, this is a young man who is either extremely selfish or has people around him advising who are extremely selfish and irrational.

I'm just saying the kid was a top 10 SG prospect and top 50 recruit he came in and did what he was supposed to do and got recruited over by 23 year olds. Honestly thought he was going to transfer last summer.
Transferring last summer would have been far more respectable, and most Tennessee fans would have at least understood. Bailing on your teammates midyear is low rent. And not even having a discussion with the staff is about as gutless as it gets. The more I hear about how it all played out, the more I say "good riddance".

Well he should of put the proper work in...especially on the defensive side to get more minutes. These guys know that when they sign to play for Barnes. Only persons fault this is is Carr's. Dude is a quitter and loses all respect from me. I hope he goes to some team we play in the future and we smash him.

To not even have respect for the coaching staff that recruited and supported you is just insane. Just leave without even having a conversation with the staff first to inform them of your decision? Speaks volumes of Carr’s character. Hate to say it, but it does.
No reason to apologize. There are tons of these situations throughout the collegiate landscape, all incentivized by this toxic environment that is college sports.

Give an example of one college coach who doesn’t use the transfer portal. For better or worse, that’s college athletics in the here and now.

Where is it written he wouldn’t play here next season? Why walk out on your teammates mid season when he won’t be eligible to play anywhere else? You’re trying way too hard to be pro-player. There’s non logical defense of what he did.
He's never liked Barnes and I don't understand why?

Considering that it was a pretty minor injury early on and he’s clearly just opting out, would he be eligible for a medical redshirt? I know it’s common for people to milk one for a couple extra weeks to get one, but we’re talking about 3 months extra here…

He’d apply for the medical waiver to gain an additional year after using up his eligibility. The NCAA might change the regular redshirt rules for basketball by that time to mirror the football criteria.

Also, in this environment I don’t think that the NCAA is going to open themselves up to litigation by denying an appeal when a player has a legitimate, provable injury. Doctors don’t have a way to test for pain if their patient has that complaint.

I really don't understand this decision unless Carr is under the impression he will be able to preserve a year of elegibility somehow. But he has already played in 4 games and his injury was not season ending. So he shouldn't qualify under current rules. I know they are comsidering changing the rules, but I don't believe players will be granted a Redshirt retroactively.

I don't care that it's selfish. RB put him in a corner, he chose to leave.

What corner? The guy got hurt and isn’t as good as Lanier or Mashack. Maybe he could have surpass Gainey late in the season, but that’s not a given based on what we’ve seen from Gainey. There was no corner. Barnes is doing what every coach in the country would do: play the guys who give him the best chance to win.
